Reductionism: the oversimplification of complex realities by breaking them into smaller, often incomplete parts while ignoring the whole picture. It happens when a rich, multifaceted concept is reduced to one aspect, leading to a distorted or limited understanding.
Too often, in the Christian life, we have reduced...
Church to a gathering,
mission to evangelism,
Christology to the cross,
evangelism to a formula,
worship to singing songs,
prayer to asking for things,
the Gospel to bullet points,
calling to vocational ministry,
Kingdom of God to the afterlife,
being a Christian to a moral code,
fivefold body gifts (Eph 4) to twofold,
spirituality to withdrawal from the world,
discipleship to the transfer of information,
spiritual growth to knowledge accumulation.
But how can we embrace a faith that is more and not less? One that is deeper, more dynamic, and holistic? How can we cultivate a more expansive faith that sees more mystery and beauty?
If you’re searching for a church a better question than “what’s the preaching like?” is “what does the everyday life of the people of this house of faith look like?” - that’s the measure.
Church planter, remember the church is more than what happens tomorrow morning. Don't give too much attention to how many people join you tomorrow. Focus on the impact that is happening relationally throughout the week in neighborhoods, workplaces & social spaces. #newscorecards
