I am in Kinshasa, #DRC, and have met with our health and humanitarian partners supporting the #Ebola response to discuss the challenges we face, as the outbreak is spreading faster than our scale up of the response, with new cases doubling in some hotspots over the past week alone.
We all agree that we must urgently and massively scale up all our efforts across all pillars of the response and by all partners.
That means reaching every affected community despite insecurity and displacement, strengthening coordination under the Government's leadership, ensuring health workers have the protection, training and support they need, and accelerating access to care, surveillance and safe, dignified burials.
Above all, communities must be at the centre of and have ownership of the response.
We cannot stop Ebola without their trust, leadership and partnership.
@WHO remains committed to working alongside the government of the DRC, @AfricaCDC and all partners, and we will stop this outbreak, together.

.@WHO is working closely with #Ethiopia’s @FMoHealth, the Ethiopia Public Health Institute and regional health authorities as part of the rapid response to a suspected outbreak of a viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF) in the Southern Ethiopian Region.
8 people, including health workers, have reportedly been infected.
WHO has deployed experts to the affected towns, along with medicines and other materials to support care for people in need, and personal protective equipment for health workers.
WHO will also be supporting contact tracing in affected communities. Samples have been sent for testing. Further details are expected soon.
I have released US$300,000 from the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies to provide immediate support.
WHO’s offices in Ethiopia and South Sudan are collaborating closely to prevent potential cross-border transmission. WHO is ready to scale up support, as and when needed.
I commend Ethiopian health authorities for their timely sharing of information and quick response and offer WHO’s full support.

#Ethiopia has confirmed that the suspected outbreak in the Southern Region is Marburg virus disease, with at least nine people infected.
I commend the rapid action and transparency of Ethiopia’s @FMoHealth and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (@EPHIEthiopia). @AfricaCDC’s in-country team continues to work closely with national authorities, providing technical support and closely monitoring the situation.
We stand with Ethiopia to contain this outbreak quickly and protect communities.

Strong institutions build stronger health systems.
