@jennyessler @CovinoKristen @evornithology @DrLMRobinson That sounds rough! For a 3/4 load, I'd ask questions: Do labs count separately from lectures? Are there double sections that meet simultaneously ? Are any courses designed by coordinator with little prep responsibility? What is max class size? Unfavorable answers would worry me.

@damianaswan @LokatisSophie @campusnatur_fu @FU_Berlin You’re correct that estimated average arthropod abundance decreased in North America, but error bar substantially overlaps value of zero. This means we can’t be confident whether the true value is a decrease or increase in NA. Estimate is affected by sample size & variability.

@DrLMRobinson I’m sure this sounds heavy to a grad student, because grad programs have faculty with higher research expectations. 4-4 is common at teaching oriented comprehensives & non-research faculty teach a 5-5 load. It’s entirely manageable, but more time on teaching than research.

@JacquelynGill @ericwburgess I agree - we use "spore-producing" as shorthand for making spores but not seeds. But, when there's an opening, however narrow, to tweet about plant life cycles, I'm going to take it 🙂. Your quiz still has only right answer, this technicality aside.

@ericwburgess @JacquelynGill All plants on the list make spores! Horsetails make spores but not seeds. In seed plants, pollen & ovules start off as spores (small "microspores" & big "megaspores") then develop into more complex structures, forming a seed after fertilization.
