My point stands. Overall, being in the trades for 40 years is no more severe than sitting in a chair 8 hours per day. In both cases, there are easy lifestyle steps you can take to mitigate the impact.

I get invited to these remote 14/7 or 21/7 jobs all the time by guys I work with and I always say no thanks. I simply do not want the money that badly.

Also, lots of these guys end up so miserable that they need to blow it all on booze, gambling and toys as a balance, so they are not even getting ahead in any meaningful way for all their sacrifice.

All that said, you can be making ~75th percentile income after 4 years of training/school. If I had an otherwise aimless son, he would be heading to trade school, not university.

However, it does not take 10-20 years to access these high-end jobs. That is dead wrong.

While I am here, the trades are not body-breaking. No more than sitting in a chair for 40 years.
