@EHChalus Several early years teachers in my family pointed this out to me over the last few years. I was shocked, but anecdotally it stands up, unfortunately.

@EHChalus@GeorgianLords Does @GeorgianLords's research into Wilkes's meticulous electioneering as well as his post-Gordon Riots career suggest he was less of a one-trick pony than Farage, who has surely never succeeded in being elected to Westminster for a reason?
Great experience working with @thehistoryguy and the @HistoryHit team on this excellent documentary marking 250 years since the #BostonTeaParty. Refreshing to be able to highlight the lesser known perspective of the British East India Company!
250 years ago, on 16 December 1773, an event happened that fired the starting pistol for the American Revolution.
In our new release, join @thehistoryguy as he travels from Massachusetts to London to reveal the global story of the Boston Tea Party. Out now on History Hit 💥

An absolutely huge loss to scholarship, to Oxford, to everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Hamish and benefitting from his generous encouragement. Thinking of his close friends and family today.
We are deeply saddened to share that our colleague & Senior Research Fellow, Professor Hamish Scott, has passed away. He was a wonderful member of our community & will be very much missed by the Fellowship & staff. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
Feeling spooky? Read '‘Chatham's Ghost’ and the Enduring Spectre of Lord Bute's Secret Influence: A Political Negotiation of 1778' by @Ben_Gilding and Richard Connors: https://t.co/FQ3vpVZUOh 👻
It's open access for the next ten days!
@ninlive@sheepdean The sound quality wad amazing at the Eden Project last night. Best I've ever heard at a live show. Do you know if anyone was taping or if they will be taping tonight? It would probably turn out to be a stunning recording.
@EHChalus My French is rusty but literally it is: 'They drank a measure of wine'. Possibly, however, those conversant in 18th C french might be able to say whether 'une mesure' is a kind of stock-phrase for being a little drunk or tipsy?
Edward Thurlow, Lord High Chancellor, was born #OTD in 1731.
Read about Baron Thurlow, as a target for satire in the print caricatures of James Gillray (1756–1815), in @NewCollegeOx’s scholarly open-access e-journal, New College Notes—by @Ben_Gilding:

18th C. imperial policymaking at its finest via Henry Dundas: 'I am in a tent on the top of a hill in the highlands of Scotland, possessed of no paper to refer to & your public Dispatch...not having yet reached me.' *Proceeds to outline policy towards Dutch in India regardless*
