(3/3) Often it seems that we disregard this truth under pretense of debate or “discussion”. I’ve felt my opinions devalued if I could not change the mind of someone more interested in changing MY mind. I think I’ll be happier if I ignore the “debate” and follow their guidance.
(1/3) I’ve come to realize that if someone disagrees with you, the onus is not on you to change their mind. You’ve had the experiences and done the work to form your opinion. They are asking for a shortcut to that opinion and the effort to provide it will often go unappreciated.
(2/3) If they actually value your perspective, it is up to them to do seek out similar work and experiences. Any guidance from you is a favor NOT an obligation. Keep in mind the same is absolutely true for anyone you disagree with.
