This would have been the first visit by a German Foreign Minister to #Fiji, providing an opportunity to show #solidarity and commit to financially support #Pacific communities on the frontlines of the #climatecrisis. Very unfortunate that this was missed due to a defective plane.
WILPF & @WGC_Climate joined for a session on “#Demilitarisation, #Peace & #ClimateJustice" launching the Peace & Demilitarisation Working Group within the WGC— a promising foundation to bring this topic to the UN climate talks.
Here are some key highlights from the workshop💡👇
@duabusan Agree, the dumping will impact communities beyond the Pacific region. Pacific civil society is leading the fight against this nuclear injustice!
This is concerning … Standing in #solidarity with #Pacific civil society demanding Japan to find a viable alternative to the dumping of Fukushima Nuclear Waste Water into the Pacific Ocean.
We are deeply concerned by the recent statement made by Fiji's Prime Minister @slrabuka in support of Fukushima Nuclear Waste Water Disposal plans.

@FijiGovernment@fijiparliament For the IAEA to say the the dumping would have “negligible impacts on people and planet”—what are your standards of negligible? It may be negligible by global north standards, but getting this wrong would devastate PICs who rely so heavily on the ocean.
The #Oppenheimer movie fails to expose the horrific consequences of the US nuclear legacy. Extraction of uranium, testing, waste and use of nuclear weapons - all these actions have devastating impacts on the people and the planet.
Let’s use this screening of the #Oppenheimer movie to continue to call for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons! #TPNW now! Nuclear justice now!
What about the radiation exposure on the #Navajo Nation due to uranium extraction? What about the health impacts for communities in New Mexico from #nuclearweapons testing at the #Trinity Site? What about #nuclearwaste and the #environmental injustice?
We must reject the dumping of 1.3 million tonnes of treated nuclear wastewater by Japan into the Pacific Ocean! No dumping of nuclear waste can ever be safe! Listen to communities affected by nuclear legacies and follow @bedi_racule and @Lani4Pasifika for more information!
Sharing this again since Japan seems to be vamping up its effort to convince the public that the DUMPING is safe. By the way, let's not call it discharge, lets call it what it is... DUMPING. Whether it's slow or fast, diluted or not, ITS DUMPING. #StopTEPCO

“It is important to achieve sustainable peace (...) & consider how militarism & armed conflict affect the environment and people (...)." At #COP27, @BenzingMichelle participated in a feminist speak out, next to feminist activists from around the globe: 👉https://t.co/7yc3uOrnSa
While world leaders gathered to talk about the future of humanity at COP27 human rights were so easily ignored: in Egypt while people were being slaughtered in Iran- the conference at times felt like a cruel joke. This is the last poem I shared at Cop27.
