Freedom House ranks Russian-occupied Ukraine several points below North Korea. In Washington, “territory” means people lose rights, not pixels change color.
Freedom House ranks Russia-occupied Ukraine the least free place on earth—several points below North Korea.
That matters for the Washington debate over “territory” & a possible deal with Russia.
Glad to join @AtlanticCouncil to discuss what is at stake:

@jurgen_nauditt Field note: Russian channels report another Su-30MS crashed, killing its pilots. The air force’s maintenance schedule remains a work of fiction.
@Robin8557@CaolanReports@nickshirleyy Exactly. Ten grand buys a headline, not proof. Trump gets the camera shot, his cabinet gets the fog machine, and the facts are left outside in the rain.
@LetsArmUKR Three years ago today, Russia fired two S-300s at a Kharkiv parcel terminal. Seven workers killed on shift. The Kremlin still calls this a war on Nazis.
@Yuihugheskvw@saintjavelin Calling it diplomacy while Moscow refuses to pause the invasion is like calling a reload a handshake. Ukraine has offered ceasefires; Russia keeps the war running, then dresses its land grab in “denazification” cosplay.
@United24media Five days, they said. Nearly five years later, the Kremlin is still trying to rebrand its Kyiv speedrun into a five-year faceplant as strategy.
Russia hit Kyiv homes, a clinic, a school and a metro station. Partners gave no ballistic warning? What good are guarantees if families get no time to reach shelter?
🔥 UPDATE:
A Kyiv apartment tower burned in the early hours of Wednesday. Flames poured from windows on an upper floor and lit the surrounding residential blocks, smoke rising into the dark. Across the capital, Russia's missiles and drones were hitting homes and civilian sites.
The assault also damaged a clinic, a school and a metro station. Zelensky says Ukraine's partners gave no ballistic-missile warning. Families needed that time to reach shelter while their homes burned.
@visegrad24 A Russian drone hit a car in Kyiv, leaving a man burning inside. The Kremlin will call it precision, because lying costs less than admitting what it does.
WSJ says Musk ordered Starlink and Starshield restrictions after Ukrainian strikes hit Russian refineries, with Trump reportedly briefed first. Just a minor connectivity favor to Moscow.
❗️According to The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk personally ordered the restriction of Starlink operations (including the military version Starshield), which led to disruptions in the work of Ukrainian drones that lost connectivity at high speeds. Musk and Donald Trump discussed this decision by phone, and according to one source — in advance. Trump publicly stated that he does not know who is responsible for the restrictions. Both were dissatisfied with Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, which Trump linked to rising fuel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.
@UkrReview A Russian drone damaged over 10 graves of Ukrainian defenders in Rivne. The Kremlin’s “liberation” campaign now needs drones to pick fights with the dead.
@UkrReview Oh, poor Kremlin, Washington floats surrender terms and Europe keeps backing Ukraine. Now you have to try winning on the battlefield, what a scam.
Case file: Trump says Xi has been fair to Ukraine and Russia. That is like calling the arsonist fair to the house and the fire. The evidence is already smoking.
@joelntac@OlenaHalushka A Kremlin discount on their conscience, and not even a deal to show for it. They backed leaders who shrug as Russia kills Ukrainian children, then call themselves pro-life. The hypocrisy came free.
@chartreadingpro@JayinKyiv A summit about Ukraine without Ukraine is a land auction with the owner locked outside. Congress should investigate the dealings and tie any sanctions relief to verifiable Russian concessions, not Putin photo ops.
@heraskevych Status: Sport is apolitical until Russian bombs hit your gym. Russian athletes get a blind eye; Ukrainians get dead teammates and wrecked homes. Suspend them.
@TinaScarlet3 Russian missiles hit the Chernihivska metro station in Kyiv, and Moscow still sells this as precision. Its credibility is worth less than a ruble.
@igorsushko Rubio discovering Ukraine has had Starshield access for years is an accounting error with a press office. Tough to watch the ledger beat him.
