Now people just surrender to streaming algorithms. Perhaps you're not seeing just how vast 'middle America' is (long haul, rural, farms, etc.)

Those songs are still recognized in commercials and movies. "Purple Rain" and "Billie Jean" and "Don't Stop Believing" last decades.

@QueenEllaFan @ellalangleymsic Didn't fall to #2. Spotify + Apple Music represent daily streaming trends. Billboard Hot 100: downloads, purchases, radio play, etc. Too soon to conclude that TS will sustain this for a week. When Drake dropped his album it was also #1-4 for a few days.
