50 years ago today, 29 year old Robin Knox-Johnston set sail from Falmouth aboard a 32 foot ketch named Suhaili. Together they would make history, becoming the first to sail solo and non-stop around the world.

50 years ago today: Sir Robin Knox-Johnston left Falmouth on his 32ft yacht 'Suhaili' to take part in the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. 9 started, only Sir Robin completed it in 312 days, becoming the first person to sail single handed and non stop round the world. @SirRKJ
