Imagine someone fell into a coma in 1999 when the Euro was introduced. Switzerland and Germany were economic equals.
He wakes up today. 🇨🇭 is 1.8x richer.
Germany joined the Euro. Switzerland didn't.
Why the divergence?
The Euro forced Germany to cut real wages for 20 years to stay export-competitive. Switzerland's independent currency allowed it to keep workers rich and force companies to innovate.
Productivity:
🇨🇭 +52% in 26 years
🇩🇪 Stagnant
Real wage growth (1999-2025):
🇨🇭 +45% approximately
🇩🇪 +12.3% (nominal wages +60.7%, but inflation eroded gains)
Infrastructure:
🇨🇭 World-class
🇩🇪 Crumbling
Corruption:
🇨🇭 Rank 5
🇩🇪 Rank 15 (worsening)
Lesson: Currency unions with weaker peers are a trap for strong economies. Germany should have stayed independent like Switzerland.
For years, we built order management software for media companies.
I used to think that was the product.
It’s not. It’s the operating system underneath the product.
Everyone is shipping AI that writes briefs and summarises meetings.
Fine. We’ve all used that.
None of it moves money.
What I’m watching instead:
What happens when an agent tries to book inventory, apply a price, respect a contract, and get something invoiced — without a human cleaning up the mess afterward.
That’s the hard part.
And that’s where most of this AI wave will quietly fail.
If it can’t survive finance, it’s not autonomy. It’s theatre.
So we’re not building another assistant.
We’re building the layer that decides whether an autonomous decision is allowed to become a real transaction.
Order management got us here.
What comes next is colder:
execution that still holds when nobody is watching the screen.
📷
Agents don’t buy ads. Order systems do. Every “agentic media buy” still ends in the same place: inventory, price, contract, invoice. If your agent can’t talk to the order layer, it’s a demo — not a business. We’re wiring that handshake.

When it comes to billionaires my take is the opposite of Leftists:
Billionaires SHOULD consume all their wealth: megayachts, English castles, mountains of cocaine, own a dozen homes and 30 cars - do it! Spend it all!
The worst thing that can happen is for a billionaire to try to ‘do good in the world’ and shovel money to NGOs for some cause they get excited about. That’s the worst thing that can happen. Charitable donations should be taxed at 500%. A billionaire’s lavish lifestyle poses no threat to me but their misguided ‘good intent’ is absolutely cancerous and potentially civilization ending.
ADvendio’s next AdCP update might be too powerful to release publicly.
The new agentic model is so fast, it started closing media deals before the agencies even finished drafting the RFP...
We even put it in a secure Salesforce sandbox for testing, but it negotiated its own agency commission and deployed itself to production.
It also successfully reconciled a complex end-of-month billing discrepancy without using a single spreadsheet. The client's finance team is currently in shock.
Out of an abundance of caution, we are withholding the update until further notice.
Sincerely,
The ADvendio Team

“Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you. You think about it; it’s true. If you hire somebody without [integrity], you really want them to be dumb and lazy.” - Warren Buffett
Either you have an excellent Governance Layer for the deal handshake, or you risk having a very smart agent with no integrity.
Great thread—strong points on infinite desires & SaaS moats.
One blind spot: **Business Logic as the real moat**. Enterprise SaaS value is in 10+ yrs of embedded rules (margins, compliance, tax, audit trails). CFOs won't hand liability to raw AI prompts—SaaS platforms become the **governance & policy layer** between agents and reality.
ServiceNow wins here. Many verticals won't pivot fast enough.
@elerianm Lagarde’s greatest skill isn’t economics; it’s failing upwards with such elegance that nobody notices she’s actually a lawyer masquerading as a central banker. A truly diverse portfolio of incompetence.
"Why should companies pay for SaaS (HR/CRM/ERP/etc.) when they could just vibe code them?"
I get variations of this question or comment with some regularity (granted, it's sometimes just me talking to myself).
Here are some biased (but hopefully, well-considered) thoughts:
1) I am a big proponent and user of vibe coding (what I call "agentic coding"). I do it every day, 7 days a week, including Sundays. It's amazing.
2) My company, HubSpot is a software company. We have hundreds of professional engineers -- just about all of them use AI for product development too. They are brilliant and know how to build production-grade products.
3) Even with this powerful army of talent, the number of internal, core SaaS applications that we have replaced with a vibe-coded variant is exactly ZERO. The number of applications we plan to replace is also exactly ZERO.
4) It's not the absence of talent that keeps us from rolling our own SaaS apps, it's the presence of focus. It would be silly to try and replace our HR, team collaboration, expense tracking and 100+ other SaaS apps we use when we can just buy them. Just doesn't make sense.
5) That's us -- as a software company at some scale. If you're a non-software company it makes even less sense for you. Doesn't matter how good the AI coding tools get. Let's say you *could* vibe code a replacement for that SaaS app you're using, who's going to maintain it? Who's going to keep up with industry trends? What are you going to do when the 20-something genius that vibe coded it over a weekend leaves the company? Who do you call when there's a major bug?
6) If you're a Fortune 500 company at some scale, perhaps you could pull this off for some discrete use cases and the tradeoffs are worth it. You have an IT/Engineering department that is larger than the population of some countries. You can take on the pain in return for the positives.
For the millions of others, my advice is:
Spend every calorie possible on creating value for your customers.
Agentic AI (autonomous AI agents) and AdCP (Ad Context Protocol) could erode TTD's moat by enabling automated ad tasks like inventory discovery and optimization across platforms, potentially bypassing DSPs. This favors walled gardens (e.g., Google, Amazon) over open-web players like TTD. However, TTD counters with AI tools like Kokai for enhanced targeting and efficiency, maintaining competitiveness. Risks include reduced ad inventory from AI search trends.
