🎉🇦🇺 Union win! Around 500,000 young workers in Australia will get a pay rise thanks to a steadfast campaign by our commerce affiliate @SDA. The country's Fair Work Commission ruled that workers aged between 18 and 20 in retail, fast food and pharmacy will progressively receive the full adult rate of pay, ending a long-standing system of discounted “junior rates”.
SDA National Secretary Gerard Dwyer, who also serves as UNI President, said: “Eighteen-year-olds are adults. They struggle with the same cost of living pressures as every other adult. They do not receive a discount on their rent or the petrol they buy to get to work just because they happen to be 18. Now they will be paid the same as other adults.”

After years of campaigning led by the country's largest retail and service union - UA Zensen - Japan is set to introduce a groundbreaking law to protect service workers from violence by customers. Now, new government guidance - released ahead of the law coming into force in October - advises employers on how to put it into practice.
"For retail workers on the frontline, this is real progress. It sends a clear message that abuse is not part of the job, and that employers and governments have a responsibility to protect workers," said UNI's Head of Commerce, Mathias Bolton. "UA Zensen have shown what can be achieved through commitment and sustained advocacy."

‼️ Amazon claims it’s “Earth’s best employer.” Then spends $26M fighting workers who want a voice.
You can’t be “the best employer” and anti-worker at the same time.

Amazon will do just about anything to polish its image - except, of course, provide its warehouse workers with fair pay, decent conditions, or any respect.
When Amazon attacks the rights of workers anywhere, it's a call to action for workers everywhere.
Solidarity with @UniforTheUnion workers in Delta, BC, fighting for a fair collective agreement. Together, we'll #MakeAmazonPay!
"At the end of the day, Amazon broke the law again, got caught red-handed, has to pay over a million dollars."

This Black Friday think before you click the link. Amazon is not a good corporate citizen. Make Amazon pay fair taxes. Make Amazon pay attention to worker safety. Make Amazon listen to workers collective voices. #MakeAmazonPay
ANZAC Day is the only Public Holiday with half-day trading restrictions. So we're changing that.
It means veterans and their families can commemorate the day without having to run off to work at 1PM.
It just makes sense.
Big news for young workers today !
The SDA is filing our application in the Fair Work Commission to remove junior rates for 18 & 19 year old workers in retail, fast food & pharmacy.
Our message is clear: if you’re of adult age you should be paid an adult wage.
