Let’s talk about vaping and synthetic cannabinoids (which is often called ‘Spice’). You may have seen a story in the news about young people using 'zombie vapes”, which is when synthetic cannabinoids are added to vapes. But what are they really, and why are they dangerous?
Nitazenes, a type of synthetic opioid, have been found in drugs that are available on the internet or from a dealer. This includes benzodiazepines (such as Xanax and Valium), as well as heroin and oxycodone.

Drinking alcohol to unwind, socialize and celebrate is normalized in our society, but there is a point when it starts to become a problem.
Throughout history, alcohol has been deeply engrained in military culture, both in social settings and as a decompression or coping method.
Some of the reasons why veterans turn to alcohol include:
-Habit from their military background,
-Trouble adjusting to civilian life,
-Mental health difficulties,
-Coping mechanisms to mask or alleviate triggers of trauma,
-Help with sleep,
-Loneliness,
-Isolation.
Some are able to use alcohol without it leading to dependence or addiction, but others might find it extremely hard to control their drinking or quit without support. Something that is common is binge drinking and not being able to stop when started.
There is no shame in recognising that you might have a problem and reaching out for help. Here at Combat Stress, we offer free self-help guides and confidential support to those struggling with substance misuse.
