Pope Leo XIV has donated $100,000 to support a clean water initiative in El Salvador, expanding a @CatholicRelief project aimed at bringing safe, drinkable water to rural communities.
The “Agua Segura” (Safe Water) program will now reach 4 additional dioceses out of the 8 in the country, helping install water treatment systems and improve sanitation for thousands. An estimated 50,000 people could ultimately benefit, with 7,500 directly impacted by the pope’s gift.
With only a small portion of the country’s water considered safe for consumption, Church leaders say the effort addresses a critical need. “Clean water is life,” said CRS president and CEO Sean Callahan, noting he and the agency were “deeply honored” by Pope Leo’s donation.

Keeping our gaze fixed on the Face of Jesus allows us to look into the faces of our brothers and sisters. His love draws us toward them. Faith in Him, our peace, invites us to offer everyone the gift of His peace.
Today, as we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, let us reflect on #PopeLeoXIV's words, which call us to safeguard God's creation. We must work together and act now to protect our #planet so our sisters and brothers can thrive.

#Gaza is going hungry. CRS has 5,000 food kits ready in Jordan and 10,000 under purchase. When increased aid can enter, we can deliver. What’s in our food kit? Enough to feed a family of 6 for two weeks—meeting 100% of their daily calorie needs. (1/3)
For decades, CRS has worked in #Gaza—working with local communities, the Church, and partners. Our supply lines are ready. We’re on the ground in both the north and south. Since October 2023, we’ve reached 1.7M+ people—and we’re ready to do more. https://t.co/VjyhMQ916r.
Orderly distributions are possible in #Gaza. Since October 2023, we’ve reached 1.7 million people with food, shelter, water, cash assistance and emotional support. With a ceasefire and unimpeded access to aid, we are ready to do more. The need is urgent: https://t.co/HlvKyYK2MB.
When we consider our calling, each of us can say with confidence: “Despite my weakness, the Lord is not ashamed of my humanity. Instead, he comes to dwell within me. He accompanies me with his Spirit; he enlightens me and makes me an instrument of his love for others.”

The situation in the Gaza Strip is increasingly worrying and painful. I renew my heartfelt appeal to allow the entry of dignified humanitarian aid and to bring an end to the hostilities, whose heart-rending price is borne by children, the elderly, and the sick.
Catholic Relief Services hosted a May 17 national online meeting with some 375 participants to mobilize congressional lobbying against additional long-term cuts known as rescissions.
