@sciam If you think of your diet as millions of milligrams of medicine that you take every day - it's no wonder that it has such a powerful effect on the brain.
Would you believe that the first ever MyCME course on ketogenic diet for Type 2 Diabetes is now live, taught by @bschermd and @DrMarielaGlandt ?
https://t.co/mNfcLRONKk
Guess why it's taken this long? Because CME is expensive to create and the organizations who typically fund these courses are -- you guessed it -- pharmaceutical companies.
So we stepped up as a family foundation to fund courses that teach clinicians how to use therapeutic nutrition to reverse chronic disease.
I'm proud of our team @BaszuckiGroup and @Metabolic_Mind for getting this done, and grateful to our collaborators for working so hard to co-create this content.

"Ketogenic diet for status epilepticus in adult intensive care unit patients: a standard operating procedure" — Read it on @ResearchGate: https://t.co/mjyd0wkk3R This works in kids now we know it works in adults. THIS SHOULD BE STANDARD OF CARE IN INTENSIVE CARE UNITS.
Dietary Reference Intake (page 275); "The lower limit of dietary carbohydrate compatible with life apparently is zero, provided that adequate amounts of protein & fat are consumed. However, the amount of dietary carbohydrate that provides for optimal health in humans is unknown."
One of my recent articles published in Frontiers in Nutrition just reached a new impact milestone. Here is the link if you would like to read our research: https://t.co/y8Tx01dc5X
@Metabolic_Mind@AccordMetabolic I'm so happy for you/your program! Hoping the participants absorb all that you are offering and take it back home with them for life.
Ever wondered if the high saturated fat content in your #ketodiet is a cause for concern? A ketogenic diet can put treatment-resistant mental illness into remission and eliminate type 2 diabetes. But what about the #saturatedfat? 🥑
In this video from cardiologist @bschermd, you'll learn:
🔹 The benefits of ketogenic therapy
🔹 Potential concerns with high saturated fat intake

If you memorize just one thing about the state of ketosis, let it be @GeorgiaEdeMD's explanation in this video below.
People tend to think of a "keto diet" as a high fat meat focused diet for weight loss. But in fact any way of eating that lowers insulin enough to turn fat burning on is ketogenic. When fat burning is turned on, ketones are produced. These molecules easily cross the blood-brain barrier and can be used by the brain for fuel.
Maybe we should change the name to "LID" = Low-insulin diet.
(Everyone on our team gives me a hard time because I'm constantly trying to come up with acronyms for everything. Better ideas are welcome in the comments.)
The pursuit of science, regardless of its funding source, is essential for advancing our understanding of mental health.

As parents who know the life-changing impact of ketogenic therapy, @BaszuckiGroup co-founders @janellison and @DavidBaszucki have responded to @MDHealthDept Secretary Dr. Laura Herrera Scott's decision to shut down the only US-based inpatient study of a ketogenic diet for schizophrenia.
They emphasize: "Considering the scarcity of federal funding for mental health research, privately funded studies like Kelly’s are a lifeline—not a line item. Kelly’s work was uniquely valuable as the only study of ketogenic therapy for schizophrenia offered to inpatients, who are often the most severely ill. These patients cannot afford a dietitian, let alone a private metabolic psychiatrist. If Herrera Scott stands by her decision, it is unlikely they will ever have access to this potentially life-changing therapy again."

Dr. Mary Newport witnessed the power of ketogenic interventions on Alzheimer’s dementia when her husband experienced remarkable improvements. And she isn't alone.
@marynewportmd has received 360 reports of similar transformations using coconut and MCT oil, showcasing the promise of nutritional ketosis in neurodegenerative disease.
