Houston, Texas — Body cam and doorbell video of an officer-involved shooting in which a suspect ran over a deputy. Officers requested assistance in pursuit of a stolen black Volkswagen Atlas SUV as it traveled the wrong way. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect, 39-year-old Omar Hernandez Lazano, ignored all signals to stop and proceeded to lead deputy constables on a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the deputies requested assistance. Several patrol units assisted in the vehicle pursuit, which lasted approximately 20 minutes. During the pursuit, Lazano pulled into the front yard of a home and quickly backed the vehicle into the driveway. The primary patrol unit, a Precinct 1 Constable Sergeant, blocked the driveway with his vehicle so Lazano could not pull back into the roadway and continue to flee in the vehicle. At that point, Lazano put the vehicle in reverse and, at a high rate of speed, crashed into the home with such force that the back half of the vehicle was inside the home. Numerous deputies began to converge on the vehicle. As they did so, Lazano drove the vehicle forward at a high rate of speed and ran directly over a deputy and dragged him approximately 20 feet until Lazano struck the marked constable vehicle that blocked his path. At that time, five deputies and one officer discharged their duty weapons, striking Lazano as he was in the driver’s seat of the crashed vehicle. Paramedics pronounced Lazano deceased. The injured deputy was transported to the hospital in critical, but stable condition, and recovered. During the shooting, one sergeant was struck in the left leg by a ricocheted bullet. Paramedics treated the sergeant at the scene.
A 92-year-old North Carolina man got so bored 2 months into retirement that he applied to work at Chick-fil-A...
...his smile, kindness, and passion for Jesus became so contagious that when he got sick and missed 3 days of work, an ENTIRE TOWN began asking where he was.
His name is Gilbert Martin.
Everybody calls him "Mr. Gil."
Mr. Gil is 92 years old, and works at the Chick-fil-A on Oleander Drive in Wilmington, NC.
He spent decades working in the natural gas industry and when he retired, he greeted people at Sam's Club for 12 MORE years, until they eliminated his position.
Most people would call that a sign to finally rest, but not Mr. Gil!
Two months into retirement, he got bored... so he walked into Chick-fil-A and put in an application.
He was 86 years old at the time.
He's been there ever since.
Not one or two shifts a week either. Monday through Friday.
He says the full schedule gives him more chances to be there for people who need him.
His official job is dining host.
Clean tables.
Clean floors.
But Mr Gil doesn't see it that way... as he describes it, his real job is:
"I get a lot of people that are coming in, just been to the doctor, and got bad news... I'm able to be an encourager; the Lord gave me that."
A 92-year-old man who could be resting at home... chooses to stand in a dining room five days a week... so strangers on the worst day of their lives don't have to be alone.
And Wilmington noticed.
When Mr. Gil caught a cold and missed a couple of days, the owner said he was FLOODED with HUNDREDS of customers who were panicked about him.
Mr. Gil has zero plans to retire.
He says if you ever see him working, come say hi.
"I don't know what 92 is supposed to feel like, but I feel great. Serving others has always brought me joy because I believe that a smile and a kind word can make someone's day a little brighter.”
We need more of this in the world!!!!
On June 23, 2026, 36-year-old nurse Allie Hummel was found dead inside her Missouri home. The 911 call came from her husband, Dr. Andrew Hummel, an anesthesiologist, who told authorities he woke up and found Allie unresponsive. But for Allie’s family, his explanation raised immediate questions. Just three months earlier, Andrew Hummel was convicted of assault after strangling Allie in July 2025.
Now, both her family and investigators are waiting for autopsy and toxicology results to come back any day now as they continue to investigate her death.

#NEW: DPS Uncovers Stash House, Captures Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrant Gang Member in Maverick Co.
DEL RIO – The Texas Department of Public Safety - South Texas Region uncovered a stash house and captured a wanted criminal illegal immigrant gang member during Operation Lone Star in Maverick Co. last week.
On May 29, 2026, just after 12:00 a.m., @TxDPS Troopers received information about a possible stash house operating out of a hotel in Eagle Pass. Troopers made contact with a female inside one of the rooms, who consented to a search after Troopers detected a strong odor of marijuana. Upon entering, Troopers discovered the room was being used as a stash house and located four illegal immigrants from Honduras hiding under blankets.
Troopers identified two of the illegal immigrants as Joseph Angel Gusman, 21, and Daniel Castillo Dionisio, 21, both Rollin’ 30s Crips gang members with a history of illegal reentry and alien inadmissibility by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Further investigation also revealed Dionisio was wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on multiple felony warrants for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm. He was arrested and booked into the Maverick Co. Jail. Gusman and the other two illegal immigrants were referred to Border Patrol.
Two American citizens, Juella Monet Brown, 27, of Grandview, Mo., and Starr Ricki Drake, 26, of Euless, Texas, were both charged with operation of a stash house and booked into the Maverick Co. Jail.
