My train home from Seattle this past weekend was canceled due to a landslide north of Vancouver, WA. I’m not positive where it occurred, apart from it being in the general area around “Felida”, but I’d say this complex is a fair guess. Mind your backyards, folks.

This is satellite image of California imagines what the state looked like during the Gold Rush (c. 1851).

What stands out the most is the incredible size of Tulare Lake in Central CA, once the largest lake west of the Great Lakes, reaching up to 3.5 times the size of Lake Tahoe.

Back from Death Valley - I’ve been there in extreme wind before, but it was always gusty. This time it was near-constant highway-speed winds.

Hiked up to the exposed fault plane of the Towne Pass fault, Death Valley. Very cool outcrop of fault breccia and Tin Mountain Limestone, definitely worth the 50+ mph winds on the way up!

I’m going to Death Valley tomorrow for the first time in 4 years. That interval is probably the longest in my life I’ve been away from there. I am very excited 😃

There is probably going to be another eruption in Iceland this week.

That sort of forecasting is often not possible for volcanoes around the world. But it is here.

@joelgombiner Got it! I got to explore Moses Coulee last spring, and now I need to explore more of that scoured area beneath the ice sheet. Amazing area!
