@CharlotteA15906 @ElaineLuria I second that, as my mom, aunts and uncles all picked cotton and as soon as each one turned 18 and graduated from High School, they were on the road to California. So yes, that was a common thing for us White kids to say.

@PatGreaney43093 @ElaineLuria Your right Pat...my mom's birth family (White) grew up on a farm in Oklahoma. 8 kids and everyone had to do their share. And a big part of that work was picking cotton, didn't matter what color you were. My mom used to tell us stories about how hard it was.

@ElaineLuria These are not racist remarks...my aunt and uncles plus my mom all picked cotton as they were born on the farm. They also picked fruit and whatever crop was ready. Hollis, Oklahoma, a wonderful place to grow up.

@ElaineLuria Luria is wrong. Blacks do not own the saying "cotton picking hands" do you think they are the only ones who picked cotton. NO way! My grandfather worked 120 acres in Hollis Oklahoma and my mother and her 6 brothers had to pick cotton and hated it. No one owns that saying.
