Never forget how we got here.

In 2008/09, the Republican Party was in a tenuous position. They, like many other parties in this country's history, were arguably on the verge of becoming obsolete.

Americans were fed up with Neocons, with the War on Terror (which we, by then, KNEW we were LIED into), and we were made privy to a TORTURE program, which both ranking Democrats AND Republicans KNEW about. Not to mention, Americans had just witnessed the complete collapse of the economy, along with major banking institutions, who had perpetrated massive frauds within the subprime housing securities market, with exotic "investment" products linked to those subprime mortgages, and by rigging the ratings agencies. (And that's just scratching the surface.)

People lost faith. People lost homes. People lost life savings.

Barack Obama and the Democrats won big that election cycle.

Instead of using that political capital to do anything he or the Democrats promised to do (institute a single payer system, or at least add a public option to the market; close Guantanamo Bay; codify Roe v. Wade, on and on), Barack Obama did the following:

- He FIRST kicked millions of Americans out of their homes, and proceeded to make the banks whole, despite a FLOOD of letters from both conservative and liberal Americans urging them NOT to bail out the banks.
- He spent all of his political capital barely passing a CONSERVATIVE healthcare plan from the early 90's, which was drawn up originally by the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank.
- His Justice Department was responsible for bringing white-collar prosecution to an ALL TIME LOW, despite the fact that, very arguably, the opposite should have been the case.
- He neglected to prosecute ANY of the people in the Bush/Cheney administration who were guilty of carrying out a torture program.
- He ramped up drone strikes to levels that made Bush and Cheney look like liberal peaceniks. At one point, the Air Force ran out of bombs, literally.
- He took this country from 4 wars to 7, in predominantly Muslim countries.
- He unilaterally ordered the drone assassination of TWO American citizens -- one of whom was a CHILD.
- He extended the Patriot Act.
- He signed and authorized the 2012 NDAA. It effectively undermined Habeus Corpus and the 6th Amendment, or the right of every American to a fair trial. Section 1021(b)(2) of the law allows for detention of citizens on "suspicion of providing substantial support" to groups engaged in hostilities against the U.S. It armed the U.S. military with the ability to imprison indefinitely journalists, activists and human-rights workers based on vague allegations.
- He deported more immigrants than every president prior to him COMBINED.
- He, along with the help of Joe Biden and neocons in his inner circle, instituted a coup in Ukraine, which would have long-term ramifications that we are still dealing with today.

There are about 500 more of these bullet points ... but for the sake of my arthritic hands, I'll leave it at those.

COME 2016.

Americans are now so sick of BOTH parties, that "rogue" candidates rise within each of their primaries: Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.

The Democratic Party, instead of realizing the moment or rising to the occasion, chose to:

- Carry out the "pied-piper" strategy, of ramping up the threat of Donald Trump, in a bid to SCARE Americans into voting Democrat.
- They rigged the primary against their own "outsider" candidate, and proceeded to call his supporters "misogynistic," (among other things) despite the fact that he had the widest appeal among all demographics.
- After they screwed Bernie Sanders, and when it became clear that Donald Trump was far more of an electoral threat than they had first anticipated, they decided to plant a false Trump-Russia collusion narrative --- a nonsense debacle that the country had to deal with for the next 7 years, effectively ramping up tensions with a nuclear superpower.

Four years later, instead of learning their lesson in 2016, they once again rigged the primaries in order to install Jim Crow Joe --- a guy who, during a pandemic, said he would "veto Medicare-for-all if it came to my desk" and who reassured his donors that "nothing would fundamentally change under my watch."

These are just the most basic bullet points. This is without going into the Fraud Squad. This is without going into, for the most part, the shitshow that is Ukraine and Russia (and the threat of WWIII).

This is a basic summary --- nothing more.

The real story is much longer and much more fucked up than even this relatively short summation.

My point is this:

If you still have any faith in Democrats, you're either delusional, ignorant, or suffering from a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome.

If you haven't learned by now that Democrats have made CRYSTAL CLEAR, in the moment when arguably the country (and world) was MOST desperate for a genuine opposition party, that they have NO INTENTION of ALLOWING that kind of CHANGE to occur on their watch .... then just go back to sleep.

Let the rest of us take it from here.
