My respect for Kane and Bellingham went up so much for being the captain that gave his teammates a chance to play and Jude for giving Saka the ball for his hatrick. Always respected them as players even though I am not an England fan or hater. Now I respect them a lot as people too. I hope the best for them going forward. Mbappe meanwhile padding stats like its not going to add an asterisk to his achievement for playing in a match generally reserved for the subs. I can see why all teams he has been the focal point of have underachieved since he joined and over achieved since he left. RM should give Vini and Bellingham and Ollise their love as they seem like they really stand up for their teammates and are generally respectful people.

The ref is not forced to swap a yellow from one player to another for mistaken identity with this change (in UEFA), the ref can still book a player for simulation based on his discretion. Basically it empowers the ref to decide as opposed to him being forced to transfer the yellow. I hate that it ruined a match but diving to manipulate a referee being policed is good because too many forwards do it. I am okay with appealing for a foul or someone selling a reasonable amount of contact a bit more because that is sometimes needed to draw attention to a situation. I am not okay with Embolo diving to the ground and rolling around writhing in agony prior to any actual contact. It pisses me off that Xhaka last WC ended like this because of that dumb forward Embolo going full on WWE.

You should add to this all the other favoritism England received including Pickford rugby tackling a Ghana striker with no intent to get ball should be red. Ghana denied penalty after Konsa challenge vs England. Modric got a penalty given against him when it was nothing in England favor at most it is always given as a retaken corner if anything. The camera is impeding a goal kick vs Norway which Eng intercepts to score and it is allowed not a drop ball, Haarland pushes off a player who was literally trying to apply a full Nelson wrestling lock on him and Haarland is considered to have fouled leading to a cancelled goal. Bellingham covers his mouth atleast 3 or 4 times this tournament during heated moments and we know this was a red card for most other players who did. Norway and Argentina had to stop midway through clear high XG scoring chances because Pickford clocks one of his own players on the head on purpose to stop play and this happened twice since he got away with it against Norway he did it again, the 2 yellows given against Arg vs England were the softest yellows I have seen this WC and were not denying goal threats that were significant. Messi gets manhandled to the point where no player could play through it, including a moment where 4 consecutive fouls are committed on him and finally the 4th one is booked. This is why Messi went to the wing, too bad for England and the officials that the 🐐 and co brought the kind of quality and mentality that just made them say challenge accepted and did it once again.

Is ESPN not supposed to be neutral? I think it is fair to say that all the major nations do get favors from officiating and this has been true as far as I have watched this sport. I definitely feel England was at least given as many favors as Argentina and so was Portugal (the snikometer with no metrics was not a problem for you when it harmed Croatia or Norway but it is the moment England loses). England should have had 2 penalties against them vs Ghana, got a complete BS pen vs Croatia, Mexico is the only one where England was a bit hard done and the entire refereeing standards were changed for this tournament enabling defenders to play in the Premier league style which benefits England and harms the Spanish and most other leagues' players.

Honestly I was completely neutral going in, but the way Pickford can smack his own teammates to stop Norway and Argentina during a goal scoring opportunity or the way Messi and Yamal have been manhandled in the semi finals....literally every 50-50 call went England's way and the ref even gave hydration breaks when Pickford asked for them and the amount of time they gave England after Argentina went ahead beyond the injury time is longer than anything we have seen.

Why is a company that generally has relatively fair experts who have spoken out against these conspiracies yet you pander to the English speaking public and contradict your expert panels with your social media posts. Egypt was hard done and they are really the only country I feel for. Switzerland, the guy was trying to manipulating the referee and none of your panelists said it was a bad call. Yes I agree and there are too few as level headed as you today. That being said moment of appreciation for Modric who I think is the only one who broke the 2 horse race that happened for years. He was a special player that meant the world to RM and Croatia and led such a small country to 2nd and 3rd place consecutively. Its the end of an era with in my opinion the 3 best players in the world probably playing in their final world cup.

Because Ronaldo is not good enough to build a team around. That is not an insult to Ronaldo who was one of the best players in his prime (which was a long time) but he has done more harm then good to our Portuguese team and contributed little internationally. For 2 World Cups Ronaldo has robbed us of a chance to fight for a title with Ramos as the focal point of the attack, he has always delivered when given the chance and having someone who can finish against strong opposition when it counts enables you to use them as a focal point. The Portuguese squad is one of the best on the planet and midfield and defense maybe the best....look at all the back to back champions league wins they have. Ronaldo inspired our next generation of footballers only to rob them of a chance at inspiring the next generation. If Ronaldo is a positive influence at the camp (I suspect many of the younger players are quite demotivated because of him but scared to speak against the celebrity on the team).

If he did bring the right attitude he could have benefited the team as a super sub and as a penalty taker if needed. Ronaldo does not understand the link up play a modern striker is expected to do. Stop giving us English fans a bad name. It sucks we lost. Our tactics were a bit aggressive with taking care of Messi, but our coach fucked up and our big names were invisible and playing in a low block against a team anyone knows not to do that against. Gutted to lose like that, but on the bright side, we get to see GOAT at 39 retire on the biggest stage. My broadcast did a frame by frame of it over in Singapore and the BBC has a 3D tool that even shows the camera wire scandal that England benefited from. In this case they also waited quite a bit before kick off with the ref having his ear phone pressed into his ear. I thought we caught a break but no if any part of Messi was offside it was just part of his hand and that does not count and has been consistent throughout the tournament since the hand is not a body part one may use to score a goal or influence the game.

If we do not own our team's short comings and call out our mistakes (despite having had the opportunity to learn from 2 of Argentina's last matches), our coach decided to stick 6 defenders on the pitch 4 of whom are central defenders and decided to use a low block against probably the team most dangerous at slicing open the low block and taking of Rice who had kept Messi as quiet as is possible was just the dumbest thing I ever seen. Argentina hit the post twice, Pickford made an amazing save and Messi was slinging in crosses the same way he did against Egypt. The coach and the to a lesser extent the players felt they should ride their luck and that was stupid. Bring on a fresh Saka and someone else quick and give the defense an outlet to put the game to bed like Spain did.

I mean its alright, on the bright side we lost to the GOAT and the world champions and the number one team on Fifa rankings and we did get to see England unfortunately get outclassed by the Spanish in the finals of the euro so if we won this, we would have lost there quite comfortably with Rodri back at his best.

I guess since my team is out, I am a neutral looking forward to the best of all time vs the one who may become the best in his generation. If we wanted a cracking finals, we probably got the most fascinating tactical battles man for man across the pitch. Spain should win because I think Yamal will deliver and Rodri will be in more space with Messi not having the lungs he used to and the extra day of rest.

Prime Mbappe literally makes any team he joins lose and any team he departs wins. 2018 is the only exception. He is clearly a negative influence on those as good as or better than him due to his ego and he literally has only been consistently good at world cups and is mid at club level. His own teammate Vini Jr would outscore him easy if they swapped who gets to play down the middle. Bellingham is also more prolific. Mbappe is a once every 4 year delicacy that I enjoy but hes not thaaat good. Didn't Messi score roughly 4 times more goals in a single season as a false 9 and not an out and out 9 like Mbappe during roughly the exact same age Mbappe is at now? Lionel Messi's peak season for combined club and country goals was 82 in 2011-12, distinct from his 91 calendar year goals in 2012.

While his dribbling, pace and ability to pass multiple defenders did decline, he evolved his game completely for his first world cup win and even more so for this one. So while his Barcelona season of scoring a ridiculous 88 goals is maybe his peak as a false 9 type striker, he has tools like playing in pockets, creating space for himself and others with his movement, dragging marking defenders out of possition and he is even in this WC occasionally played as an out and out winger (Egypt) and a deep lying playmaker (Swiss). This is a playing IQ many players who have played for coaches like Pep develop. They understand how they impact the game from a birds eye view and not just their own possition. Modric is an example of another player with such vision and innovativeness.

Ollise in the new generation shows this IQ too.
