Had an extraordinary two and a half hour visit to the remarkable archaeological excavations at #Keeladi, where findings suggest that civilization flourished as early as 3450 BC. What’s remarkable is that this is an advanced Iron Age culture whereas Harappan civilisation was still in the Bronze Age at the same time. Ongoing excavations here and at Sivagalai, further south, could rewrite the history of the subcontinent’s antiquity!

Something I wrote a few years ago

When I started out as a journalist with Times Now, I remember an air hostess had been killed by her boyfriend and he later committed suicide. My office wanted me to get her parents' reaction, and I said no.

But soon, work compulsions made me another kind of journalist. I would compulsively dig out details of crimes. Though my intention was always to get the culprit booked, the means to achieve that goal were questionable.

After around 6 years in Times Now, I covered a big case in Bangalore. A man with considerable influence was accused of raping his daughter. Though the police knew where he was, they could not arrest him. Many of us were following the story like crazy. As we dug out detail after detail about the case, there was also an element of competition amongst reporters on who will nail the guy with 'hard facts'.

Two prominent newspapers then got the child's medical record, I too did. It became the big headline.

I called the man's wife (the complainant) and told her that she can be relieved now as the medical report was out and there was no way her husband could escape.

Her reply is still etched in my brain.

She asked me."What use is it of, Dhanya? Why should the world know what exactly happened to her? And there is Google. Google will never allow my child to forget that her vagina and anus were injured."

And then it struck me. In our pursuit to make sure culprits are caught, we forget the victim, the survivor or their family.

Why should we know the sordid details of a crime? Why should we know who did exactly what?

Does the fact that a 7 year old was sexually assaulted and killed by a neighbour not outrage you? Why should you or I know HOW he assaulted her?

Yes, some cases get more highlighted than others. It depends on the place, time and the news cycle, unfortunately.

But let's not be vultures for details. All of us.

A friend has informed me that he has just gotten an NOC - absolutely without bribing - for his school to be moved to CBSE. He has been trying this for the last many years and the "bribe rate" charged was way beyond his ability to pay. CM Vijay and Minister Rajmohan deserve all the appreciation.

Watched #ModhaRathri on Netflix with family along with my 12 year old son. Imagine the title of the film is First Night, yet the whole story was so beautifully narrated, focusing on all important aspects of a relationship, with humour and creates the impact at the end. This is such a well made commercial entertainer without any dark humour. Big salute to Raja Karuppasamy. He is the new age Bagyaraj. 🫡

Navodaya schools provide education to poor students of the area either free upto Class 8 or at almost negligible fees(₹600 per month and that too only for OC and OBC categories) from Class 9 to 12.

Almost 90% of students are from rural areas. In Tamil Nadu there may be around 40-50 schools set up. Around 500 students per school.

20000 rural kids in Tamil Nadu will get a quality education almost free.
State Govt role is limited to providing land and overseeing the administration.

ALL States in India except Tamil Nadu have these schools.

To say that the people of all these States do not love their mother tongue as much as we do is absurd.

The people all over India have wisely decided that offering free education to thousands of rural children is worth the trade off of them having to learn Hindi as a second language. Medium of instruction will be English in non Hindi speaking States. Hindi is only taught as a language. Also Hindi is mandatory only until 10th Standard.

I do not agree with a Court mandating a State Govt to set up these schools as it to me appears to infringe on the rights of the State Govt to frame their policies.

But think of how insane it is to say that Tamil will be weakened if 20000 children in 40 schools learn Hindi as a language. That is roughly 3000 new kids every year.

Will our language,the oldest in the world, be weakened if 3000 children in our State learn Hindi every year and in lieu of this get a good quality education for free???

People of Tamil Nadu must seriously think and answer.

Politicians must not be allowed to destroy educational opportunities of our children just to serve their narrow political interests.

Suggestion to Centre: Why not start these schools on Central Govt land in the State and administer them entirely? #Navodayaschools #Navodaya

For past few days, it seems he is making attempts in support of Vedanta Group, to open Sterlite Industries in Thuthukudi.

Sterlite Industries was closed after it's irregularities and the worst massacre happened in recent history of Tamil Nadu.

இந்தியா தனது 80வது சுதந்திர தினத்தை இந்த ஆண்டு கொண்டாடி, 81வது ஆண்டில் அடியெடுத்து வைத்துள்ளது. நான் பிறந்த கிராமமான அயன்ரெட்டியபட்டிக்கு இன்று (13.09.26) தான் சுதந்திர இந்தியாவில் முதன்முறையாக அரசு பேருந்து வசதி கிடைத்துள்ளது.

எமது கிராமத்தின் சமூக நல்லிணக்கத்திற்���ு அடையாளமாக, அனைத்து சமூக பெரியவர்களும், மக்களும் இணைந்து பூக்கள் தூவி, கொடி அசைத்து பேருந்தை வசதியை தொடங்கி வைத்தோம். இன்னுமொரு விடுதலை கிடைத்த உணர்வுடன் மக்கள் இதை கொண்டாடினர்.

Visited Raana Semiconductors at FORT, Hosur, a young deep-tech team working on semiconductor single-crystal growth using the Czochralski process.

What impressed me most was seeing young minds from Tamil Nadu taking on foundational technologies that are difficult to build and critical to the semiconductor ecosystem.

The next generation of deep-tech companies can be built from Tamil Nadu for the world. Teams like Raana give us confidence that we have the talent and ambition to make that happen.

Interestingly, they are also working on Lithium Niobate crystals l, a material used in quantum photonics and emerging quantum computing technologies.

Wishing the team the very best as they scale. Proud to see this being built in Tamil Nadu! @TheStartupTN
