Continued Flood Risk and Travel Disruptions

Location: Rasuwa District and communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers through Mugling.

Event: Search, rescue, and recovery operations continue following the severe August 26 flood in Rasuwa District.

A lake formed upstream near the Nepal-China border after debris blocked the river. The lake began overflowing on August 28 and caused water levels in the Bhote Koshi River to rise. Nepali authorities warn that additional flooding and landslides remain possible. People near the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers should stay away from riverbanks and remain on higher ground.

Travel and Transportation: The August 26 flood did not directly affect Kathmandu Valley. Tribhuvan International Airport remains open and continues to handle domestic and international flights. Most areas of Nepal remain open to travelers.

Authorities reported reopening the Prithvi Highway and limited road access between Kathmandu and Dhunche for small vehicles. However, road conditions can change quickly. Extensive damage continues to prevent normal travel beyond Dhunche to Syafrubesi, Timure, Langtang trekking routes, and Rasuwagadhi. The Rasuwagadhi border crossing remains inaccessible.

Actions to Take:
* Stay away from riverbanks, low-lying areas, damaged bridges, and unstable slopes.
* Move to higher ground if authorities order an evacuation, and do not return until they declare the area safe.
* Postpone travel to northern Rasuwa.
* Never walk or drive through floodwater.
* Do not enter the disaster area independently to search for a missing person.
* Monitor local authorities and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at https://t.co/uN2UWg357e or call 1155 for weather and flood information.
