#Kuki_Terrorists have gunned down 13 Meitei youth in cold blood on December 4th.

The massacre happened at the Leithao village in Tengnoupal district close to the Burmese Border.

None of the victims have been identified and no weapons had been recovered from the ambush site.

Some are calling this a second Nadimarg massacre of Kashmir where the youth were rounded up and murd€r€d in cold blood.

While others are calling them Burma based Meitei militants who got ambushed.

Today marks the seventh month of the carnage in #Manipur. I still remember those unbelievable images on social media, of mobs burning houses, and women and children running in panic in Torbung and its adjoining areas...all appeared on 3rd May afternoon itself as the violence unfolded realtime...By late evening, more disturbing images from Churachandpur and Moreh followed, houses being burnt, women screaming for help...and soon images of people asking for blood and attacking people's houses in Imphal began to trickle in... Since then it's been a painful experience to see #Manipur in such a state of affairs!

Manipur is a part of a mountainous region, an extension of the eastern Himalayas forming the Arakan folds, is a fact. Given this, it's no surprise that the erstwhile Planning Commission placed Manipur as a 'Hill State' along with other Himalayan states, including its neighbours Nagaland and Mizoram rather than clubbing it with those states, such as Assam, which are classified as 'States with Hill Areas'.

For the population who have evolved through thousands of years, not only as a society but also as a political community, in this small and compact area (22,327 square km), expecting peace by splitting this entity into pieces neither understands the organicity of the 'leipak-miyam' (a peoplehood which is tied to this mountainous territory) nor the experiences and legacies of 'partition' on communal/ethnic lines elsewhere in the world.

❗️Now, Avinash Maibam (16) and Anthony Ningthoujam (19) who have been abducted and their fate is unknown. We have seen multiples instances of Meiteis safely sending back #Kuki children. We expect #ChinKukis to reciprocate the gesture.

❗️We urge both communities to release children and minors; and ensure their safe return. Let us use this as an opportunity to built trust and confidence; and not to escalate violence.
