For me, Phob's actions, intentions, means, and goals have to be seen within something much bigger than their relationship

@blackbestboy and the worst part? they're basically the reason Phob needs financial support in the first place. They contribute to an entire population's misery, only to feel good about themselves for helping like ten or twelve people

Paying for Phob's education and treating him and his family well is the BARE MINIMUM. It's crumbs. Education and decent treatment should be rights, not privileges dependent on an aristocrat taking a liking to you.
