À #Paris en marge du 9ᵉ Congrès mondial contre la peine de mort auquel je participe, j’ai pu échanger brièvement avec le Président @EmmanuelMacron que je remercie pour son écoute et son implication dans la crise des Grands Lacs.

Je lui ai fait part de la situation à l’Est de la #RDC où la mauvaise foi persistante de #Kinshasa pour les pourparlers de paix et sa posture guerrière bloque la paix alors que les populations continuent de payer le prix fort des bombardements aveugles et des offensives inutiles.

J’ai également attiré son attention sur le mémorandum que j’ai produit « Demande de non-application de la peine de mort en RDC » centré sur le jugement RP n°440/441/2024 du 8 août 2024 rendu par la Cour militaire de Kinshasa/Gombe. Ce jugement illustre une dérive grave : peine de mort, procès par défaut, justice militaire, absence de garanties suffisantes.

Depuis la malheureuse levée du moratoire par le RÉGIME de Monsieur Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, plus de 300 Congolais ont déjà été condamnés à mort dans des procès bidon par une justice que lui-même a qualifiée de « malade ».

La RDC a besoin de paix, de dialogue sincère et d’une justice crédible. Pas d’une justice de vengeance.

Le combat contre la peine de mort est aussi un combat pour empêcher que la justice corrompue devienne l’ultime instrument d’élimination politique.

Le droit à la vie ne se négocie pas. L’État de droit ne se suspend pas. La justice ne doit jamais devenir une arme.

It should be noted that Rwanda is now the latest group to allege a bias in Washington's approach to its peace mediation. The SAF in Sudan and the Tigrayans in Ethiopia have all argued that Washington's approach to peace is biased against one side. However, I would argue that in all these cases, Washington's interest is in something other than peace--Red Sea security, geopolitical competition or critical minerals--Washington's approach to peacemaking is simply a disguise for advancing its on narrow and parochial interests that have little to nothing to do with peace in Africa.

The preservation of the 1994 Genocide against the #Tutsi history belongs primarily to #Rwanda, making the country uniquely qualified to take full custody of the ICTR and IRMCT archives. Bringing these records home fulfills all necessary technical and institutional standards while securing justice for survivors. Attempts to block this transfer by the "Stand for Our Parents" campaign are nothing more than revisionist maneuvers by the children of convicted genocidaires looking to sanitize their families' dark history.
