White heron (great egret?) on the Tay at Broughty Ferry beach today, I think the far north of its range? Too far for my phone camera to produce anything good though.
I've fried of the chorizo in its own oil, as the basis for a pumpkin risotto. The chorizo was going to be a crumb, but there might be a grazing time problem...
Trains sometimes get cancelled, not many that stop at my station, lots go through. Last week: speak to station staff, then help point, staff again, then taxi, wouldn't take assistance dog, new taxi. This week: extra stop on next train. Let's keep as the new normal @ScotRail
Met a man carrying his shopping. A bunch of flowers, and a bag of flour. Either it is someone's birthday, and there is going to be cake, or he didn't understand the instructions and is hedging his bets. I think I prefer to assume the former.
@professor_dave It's about a balance between individual and society benefit, so I think I'd prefer a discount for time spent in the public sector, funded through general taxation. It wouldn't be good to discourage participation for financial reasons.
Fish! Hake with a paprika crust on an orange and saffron risotto. Some fish left over, so have put it in a cheese sauce with new potatoes and onions (think fish pie). #RolloverLeftovers
@professor_dave It's a new season, comfort food definitely needed, I've dug out my pressure cooker and done a pearl barley "risotto" and a dhal, with lots of batch cooked portions!
@professor_dave I've also been on holiday and not facing the emails, though special issue requests just go to spam. I've tried to reduce review requests, by defining an ideal review to publication ratio p.a. (2). As it is now over 4, I'm not doing any more until I've published the next paper!
@GM2UWX I just pretend any bagged salad is spinach, and it goes in an omelette, chilli/curry/pasta or some sort of feta and olive thing. Though quite often it is past saving, doesn't always get the gentle approach it needs getting on to the shelves.
Rescued some runner beans and sole today, was going to just have fried fish with a potato and caper salad, but fancied a change and have a potato curry with cardamom and yoghurt, fried fish, with turmeric and a nutty crumb. Quite pleased with both. #rescuedinner
@findinganeish It's a roll. More specifically it is a soft batch roll. To be a bun it would have to be sweet, but then I used to think that about teacakes until I lived in West Yorkshire.
The #Olympic2024 high jumpers are tied for gold, having both got over 2.36m and both failed at 2.38m... they've gone back to 2.36m - why don't they try 2.37m? Is it due to the accuracy of measuring the height? Listening on @bbc5live so we're distracted by swimming at the moment.
