Massie: $5.5M raised. Average donor gave $100. His opposition: $32 million. Three billionaires, Secretary Hegseth on the ground, four presidential attacks in one day, all to silence the guy fighting for the Epstein files. Trump calls elections rigged. Look in the mirror. Go Massie.
Tomorrow, KY-4 votes in Thomas Massie's primary. Trump endorsed his challenger β a useful tell.
The loudest voices on here will tell you we're in some unstoppable, existentialist realignment. The day-to-day says something simpler & less flattering: a president changing his mind hour to hour, a family profiting off the whiplash, & a Republican conference too cowed to say so.
@RepThomasMassie has said so. Repeatedly. He kept the promises the rest of them broke, which is the actual reason he has to go.
Keep him in Congress.
Let me expand a bit on why I think the talk of Moreno in the first round is most likely agent hype..... part of it is the timing of the chatter.... too early in the process for that part to make sense.....
But.....The case against him going in the first round is stronger than people want to admit.
He has zero proven floor spacing. None. In 2026, drafting a big man in the first round with no perimeter shooting is a massive gamble. You're betting a guaranteed contract on a skill he hasn't shown yet against NBA athletes.
The athleticism is good but not elite. He's not a dynamic above the rim finisher and he's not a face up threat. That's a role player ceiling being priced like a franchise piece.
He's too thin/weak for a drop coverage center right now. He'll get pushed around until he adds real strength and that development can take time for NBA bigs going against grown ass men
His defensive rebounding rate was below average on the season. One freshman year in college ball. That's the entire resume.
He also skipped the 5 on 5 scrimmages at the combine. Teams are being asked to spend first round capital on a guy who wouldn't compete in front of them in Chicago. Make that make sense.
The 2027 draft class is projected to be significantly weaker. If Moreno comes back, dominates as a sophomore, and enters next year he likely goes top 20. Why would any team rush this evaluation and overpay now?
And before someone says "but his archetype translates to the NBA" let me address that too.
Yes, rim running shot blocking bigs have one of the better development curves in the league. Capela, Adams, DeAndre Jordan all carved out long careers without ever shooting threes. That part is real.
But here's the problem. Those guys all had the one thing Moreno needs to add and almost never develops at the NBA level. The shooting. Big men who show zero perimeter touch in college almost never develop it as pros. The ones who do, like Brook Lopez, showed free throw touch and feel indicators early that pointed to it. Moreno's free throw shooting is encouraging but it's far from a guarantee.... and that one part is REQUIRED to make him worthy of a 1st round pick.
The strength issue is more solvable. NBA player development is excellent at adding functional mass to young bigs and his frame has room to grow. That part I believe in....but it may come too late for him.
But you're still looking at a best case scenario of a really good starting center. That's the ceiling if everything goes right. Teams drafting him in the first round are paying star pick money for a role player floor and banking on a skill developing that historically doesn't hit at a high level
@MattSakR2NG the funny thing is most of BBN is convinced landing a portal early 2nd round pick fills our "star" void while retaining one means we aren't good.
