I am deeply concerned by the comments made by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir at an event in Kano this weekend.

At this critical moment in our nation’s history, statements that promote division and disunity must be firmly discouraged. It is particularly troubling to hear such rhetoric from a religious leader of Sheikh Jingir’s stature and influence.

Let it be clearly stated: the good people of Kano do not endorse or support these divisive remarks.

Political and religious leaders alike carry a solemn responsibility to uphold truth, foster unity, and advance reconciliation. We must not lend our voices to utterances capable of undermining the very foundation of our nationhood.

The 2027 general elections will be an opportunity for Nigerians to reward good governance with resounding support and to reject poor performance at the polls. This administration has earned the latter.

“President Tinubu orders EFCC to reverse the freeze on Osun state accounts”. I’ve seen this news today.

On what grounds is the president “ordering” EFCC and issuing a directive to them??? What kind of lawless jungle is this?

The EFCC is an independent federal agency. They do not take “orders” from the president. This is madness on display. Yet some clowns are defending this blatant misuse of executive privilege.

And don’t get me wrong:
EFCC unilaterally shutting down Osun state accounts is wrong and illegal. They should only do this after following due process.

However, the president “giving orders” or “issuing directives” to EFCC is illegal and a horrible misuse of power by the president.

And before you say:
“But EFCC is a federal agency and the president appoints the EFCC chairman”, well let me remind you that INEC is a federal agency and the president also appoints the INEC chairman, does that mean the president can give orders to INEC and does the INEC chairman take orders from the president?

Do Nigerians even understand the concept of separation of powers at all? This is arrant madness and blatant insanity.

ADC TO TINUBU: WHICH COURT ORDER DID YOU DIRECT EFCC TO VACATE?
- Says president’s press statement curious, unusual.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed President Bola Tinubu's directive to reverse the freezing of the Osun State Government's accounts but questioned his claim that the EFCC acted on the basis of a court order, noting that the President was either misinformed or he had deliberately misrepresented the situation.
In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, the party argued that the President's admission that he directed the EFCC to discontinue the action undermines claims of the agency's independence or neutrality, thereby confirming that the President actually directs the operational conduct of the anti-graft agencies.

The party also describes the reversal as a response to sustained public outrage rather than a voluntary act of restraint, noting that the anti-graft agency would not have acted so recklessly in the first if it did not presume the authorisation of the federal government.

The full statement read:

While the African Democratic Congress (ADC) welcomes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately discontinue its attempt to freeze the accounts of the Osun State Government, the President's statement has raised far more troubling questions than it answers.

What we find most curious about the statement is the President's repeated reference to an alleged court order authorising the freezing of the Osun State Government's accounts. This is a remarkable new twist. In all of its public statements on this matter, the EFCC never once claimed that it had obtained a court order. The Commission consistently defended its actions on the basis of its statutory powers and what it described as “preventive mandate."” At no point did it inform Nigerians that a court had authorised its actions.

The obvious question, therefore, is: where did the president obtain the information that a court order existed? If such an order exists, why was it never mentioned by the EFCC in its statement while defending one of the most controversial actions it has taken in recent times? Why was it not mentioned by the EFCC spokesperson when he appeared on Arise Television on Thursday morning? If no such order exists, why would the president introduce one into the public narrative? It is either the President was misinformed or he had chosen to misrepresent the facts. Either possibility is deeply disturbing.

The President also insists that he does not interfere in the operational activities of anti-corruption agencies, yet in the same statement he publicly announces that he has directed the EFCC to approach the court, vacate the alleged order, and discontinue its case. That admission raises an uncomfortable question.

If the President possesses the authority to direct the EFCC to withdraw from court proceedings because the political consequences may affect an election, then it follows that he possesses the authority to direct the Commission in other operational matters as well. The net implication is that the carefully cultivated argument that these agencies operate entirely independently collapses under the weight of the President's own statement.

Indeed, the presidency's attempt at strategic distancing has achieved precisely the opposite. Rather than demonstrating institutional independence, it confirms that the presidency could whimsically intervene or direct one way or another based on political considerations.

*ADC TO APC: ADDRESS POVERTY AND INSECURITY, NOT ATIKU*

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has observed the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s increasingly desperate obsession with our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Unable to defend its catastrophic record after the Catholic Bishops laid bare the true state of the nation during their recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the APC has shamelessly seized on comments by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a desperate attempt to shift the national conversation and shift attention from their terrible performance in the last three years.
We note how, rather than answer the Bishops' concerns about worsening poverty, insecurity and the cost of living, the ruling party has chosen instead to attack the messengers, whose only offence is that they spoke truthfully and bursted their bubble of propaganda and self-deception.

This has become a familiar pattern. Whenever respected Nigerians point to the deepening poverty, worsening insecurity, rising cost of living, or the collapse of public confidence under this administration, the APC never answers for its record. Instead, it looks for someone to attack. Yesterday, it was the Catholic Bishops. Today, it is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Tomorrow, it will be someone else.
The result is a government that spends more time arguing with its critics than answering the concerns of ordinary Nigerians. What Nigerians have not heard is a convincing explanation for why life has become so much harder under Tinubu and his APC.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is entitled to his personal opinion of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Every Nigerian, including former presidents, enjoys that democratic right. But opinions do not erase records.
While President Obasanjo was in office, with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar serving as Vice President and Chairman of the National Economic Council, who also managed and coordinated economic planning between the States and the Federal Government, Nigeria experienced stronger economic growth, greater macroeconomic stability, stronger investor confidence, and a far more affordable cost of living than Nigerians endure today under Tinubu’s chaotic economic policies. Whatever political differences may now exist between the two men, that record remains a matter of public history and can not be erased.

If we are to compare opinion with performance, it would indeed be difficult for the APC to find any credible person, including former President Obasanjo, who would argue that this administration has achieved anything meaningful in improving the lives of citizens.
It is time that the APC and their government took a break from attacking Atiku and the Bishops to answer a few important questions:

Why has the prices of food and basic necessities continue to soar despite proclaimed economic growth? Why have more Nigerians fallen into poverty under your watch than at any other period in Nigeria’s history? Why have you failed to translate your so-called economic growth into jobs? Why have you borrowed more money than any other government in the nation’s history with nothing to show for it? Why is your government spending 69% of its revenue just to service debts (whereas the World Bank describes any debt service-to revenue above 22.5% as dangerously high). Can the APC explain why communities across the country continue to live under the constant threat of bandits, terrorists and kidnappers while hundreds are still held in kidnappers’ den?

There is an African saying that only a fool walks into the same trap twice. If Chief Obasanjo truly believes choosing @atiku as Vice President was his greatest political mistake, then he alone must explain why he willingly repeated that "mistake" a second time.

His book is also not a contribution to history; it is a political weapon forged in bitterness and deployed at every election cycle against those he wishes to stop. It is less a memoir than an attempt to settle old scores and rewrite history in his own image.

He added, however, that gratitude should never be replaced with revisionism.

"If the true history of Chief Obasanjo's political journey is ever written—free from selective recollection and personal bitterness—Atiku Abubakar will feature prominently as one of those whom God used to change the course of his life and political career."

The former Vice President expressed disappointment that, at a time when Nigeria is battling economic hardship, mass unemployment, insecurity and widespread despair, a former President would devote so much energy to recycling old grudges instead of contributing solutions to the country's challenges.

"The 2027 election should be about rebuilding Nigeria, restoring security, reviving the economy and giving hope to the next generation—not reopening old political wounds."

Atiku said he had deliberately maintained restraint over the years out of respect for the office Chief Obasanjo once occupied and in deference to the relationship they once shared.

"That restraint should never be mistaken for weakness or docility."

"There comes a point when silence in the face of repeated distortions of history ceases to be a virtue. While I have no desire to engage in a public quarrel with a man I once stood beside in his most difficult moments, neither will I permit falsehoods, half-truths and calculated attempts to rewrite history to go unanswered."

"Chief Obasanjo is entitled to his opinions. He is entitled to his personal grievances. What he is not entitled to are his own facts."

Atiku reaffirmed that his attention remains firmly fixed on Nigeria's future.

"I have chosen the path of service over resentment, vision over vendetta and national renewal over personal recrimination. Those who mistake my civility for capitulation, or my restraint for weakness, make a grave mistake.

"History is stubborn. It cannot be rewritten by bitterness, nor erased by repeated falsehoods. In the end, history will render its verdict—and so will the Nigerian people."

The choice of Atiku as my running mate as civilian president was a mistake

If I had known him as I came to know him later, I would not have picked him. Thank God his actions and reactions did not to overwhelm me or divert my own focus from Nigeria. There is no bitterness, he did things he believed he should do and God did things he needed to do.
