@McAndrewsIP concludes large-scale study of design patent applications filed @USPTO during 5-year period spanning 2014-19. Results can be found @BigPatent https://t.co/nrSAJCtQUm. #Designpatents no longer sail through USPTO unscathed. Kudos to @DunstanBarnes for taking the helm

Reminder to all #patent folks that use @uspto public PAIR: install the browser extension to help collect hard data on how bad it is. chrome: https://t.co/quvvuVDQeP

#OpenData
@patentbuddy But the beauty (for them) is that the "AI" tools are all internally facing and thus will not be subject to public scrutiny. The $10mms will just quietly evaporate.
PPAC IT Update complete. Don't worry everybody! Its just "ghosts" (i.e., the problems are not real) and "bots"! Once we chase those away, manual, captcha-protected, one-off file wrapper downloads will be much more reliable! #ITLikeIts1999

The Open PAIR Coalition has raised the PAIR/data accessibility issues with the PPAC and it is supposed to be in the IT update agenda for tomorrow's meeting. Watch here: https://t.co/2SjSRUpPqJ
@IP_Paralegal@FoleyandLardner@Juristat @PharmaPatents @uspto @BlackHillsIP I felt Courtenay's contribution was invaluable. @uspto somehow thinks data providers are not true "stakeholders." So hearing it straight from a practitioner at a big firm and @IPO committee was great.
@BassPatent@patentbuddy@uspto We are meeting on Wednesday with USPTO CIO Jamie Holcombe about this issue. Anyone that signed our letter to Dir. Iancu should have the deets. If not, message me.
Filing of patent applications in DOCX format brings a lot of benefits, but currently it is not ready for prime time (as discussed in recent posts on @PatentDocs and Carl Oppedahl.) I have a suggestion for USPTO on how to speed adoption of DOCX filing. https://t.co/zsGu9W2ShJ
@JeffBVockrodt@uspto The way that was set up (both in terms of technology and conflicts of interest), it never stood a chance of meeting demand. Pretty sure it's expired now anyways.
Even if there is a status, it is often out-of-date relative to PAIR. It seems @USPTO is basically no longer funding the PEDS project (despite claiming it was a viable alternative when they locked down private PAIR, resulting in public PAIR being worse than ever)
The Patent Examination Data System (PEDS) has a serious problem. Many records are missing status, status date, and inventor information. A few portions of records retrieved from PEDS and PAIR are illustrative.
@KalmiaLatifolia@uspto@WIPO@epo 2/2 Anyone that thinks this is nuts, please go to the link below and sign on to one of our letters to Director Iancu https://t.co/J3dLOFLnku
@KalmiaLatifolia 1/2 Amazingly, @uspto has no way to provide the data even to those willing to pay for it (unlike @WIPO and @EPO). In fact, this is the source of the problem - *everyone* (even the biggest companies in the patent data space) are forced to scrape pair to get this *public* data
