Sam suffered a shoulder injury in his first season in STL, eventually opening the door to a young Charley Johnson in 1962.

Heavenly Birthday Jerry Norton
The former Big Red All-Pro safety led the NFL with 10 INTs in 1960.
Jerry played 3 seasons with the Cardinals and is the only player in league history to intercept 4 passes in a game twice. He also played for the Eagles, Cowboys, and Packers.
The former 2x Super Bowl Champion Donny Anderson was traded from Green Bay to St. Louis in 1972 for MacArthur Lane.

The former Cardinal scored 13 TDs and had over 1000 yards from scrimmage in 1973.
Anderson was a 1966 first round draft pick of the Packers where he won two Super Bowls. He was traded to the Big Red in 1972 for MacArthur Lane.
While @NFL Hall of Famer Dan Dierdorf called @MizzouFootball, he's best known for 12 seasons on "Monday Night Football. He'll be inducted into the @MOBroadcasters Hall of Fame in June. In the final part of my series, he reflects on his "second career."

Heaven Birthday, Ollie Matson🕯️
NFL Legend, PFHOF Class of 1972
Drafted third overall by the Chicago #Cardinals in 1952, the Olympic medal-winning sprinter brought versatility to the NFL running back position.
Primarily a halfback and return man, Matson played 14 seasons — retiring in 1966 ranked #2 all-time in career all-purpose yards.
In 1957, Ollie became the first Black NFL player ever to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
He was the centerpiece of one of NFL history's most famous trades — the #Rams sending the rights of NINE players (including two draft picks) to the Cardinals for Matson in 1959.
6 Pro Bowls
5x First-Team All-Pro
1950s All-Decade Team
Happy Birthday, Jim Otis!
Rugged #Cardinals Fullback
A member of #OhioState's 1968 national championship team and a 1969 Consensus All-American, Jim's NFL career started slowly with the Saints and #Chiefs.
In 1973, Otis moved on to St. Louis, where he did the dirty work for Don Coryell's "Cardiac Cards".
In six seasons there, he led the club in rushing three times and led the NFC in 1975.
Jim retired in 1979 as the Cardinals' all-time leading rusher.
