I was delighted to participate in the @jcu announcement of our partnership with IMS to develop the Dugurrdja precinct in North Cairns alongside Cairns Hospital. We were privileged to get a sneak preview of the beautiful @jcu CTEC building on the same precinct.
A really interesting couple of days visiting @jcu facilities on Thursday Island. Our University is genuinely committed to building stronger communities in our region. Listening to what these communities want for their future is such an important part of this.
Having fun and learning lots this week in the South Pacific. Privileged to give a lecture at Fiji National University today. Never lectured in a garland before so that’s a first! Many great opportunities to share experiences from @jcu.
Consultation with unis will be key to ensuring the Australian Tertiary Education Commission and a new funding system can properly and adequately support a growing higher education sector and deliver on the objectives of the Australian Universities Accord. @jasonclareMP@BOConnorMP

Fascinating tour of the @jcu Australian Tropical Herbarium. A joint facility with @CSIRO and the @QldGov. Original specimens from Joseph Banks work on the Captain Cook voyage.
Fascinating visit to Klarna to hear about their AI use. Take home messages: 1. Get rapid take up from your staff to test the boundaries of how AI can be used across the business; 2. AI can make all organisations more effective. I’m feeling inspired for opportunities @jcu
Spending a few days in Estonia 🇪🇪 learning all about their incredible digital first economy and government. Lots of inspiration and ideas for what we need to do @jcu .
An important distinction! @jcu we know how much extra effort it takes to ensure student success when you have multiple layers of disadvantage and have to work across vast geographical areas.
In my high-speed reading & tweeting of the Budget last night I missed the significance of who is going to get needs-based funding - low SES, First Nations, students with disability & students studying in, but not from, regional areas.

Having an instructive morning at the Queensland IET Forum in Cairns. I was very fortunate to meet one of our outstanding students who has come to us from Bangladesh - Supracit Chakma. @tradeinvestqld@jcu@ProfChakma
‘Working together to help implement the Universities Accord will support northern 🇦🇺 in retaining and building key skills and research capabilities that will underpin the region’s future development’, write @CDUni_VC, @CQUniversityVC and @BiggsSimon. https://t.co/l7zJsNIFun
Well worth a read ... we need well thought through policy responses but I fear that is not what we are getting: Two truths and a lie: Spot the fib from the opposition https://t.co/vy6gTM5eka
How lucky we are to live in Northern Australia. The climate is always a challenge. Torrential rain, heat and humidity. But the pay off is spectacular sunrise and sunset images. Morning in Cairns. Incredible. You too can enjoy this by joining us @jcu . See you in the tropics.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks visiting @jcu facilities in the west of our state and then attending the @uniaus summit. Great to be back in our tropical paradise. 🐠 🌴
Learning more about the Universities Accord from the Chair at the Universities Australia conference. Many recommendations that offer hope for regional students and universities like @jcu .
