That wasn't the issue before the Court though: just prosecution for mere possession. Those are related, but not the same issue. It sounds logically inconsistent but we are looking at gun purchase vs. gun possession and drug use vs. possession. Technically, you could purchase a gun and possess pot - just not use pot. Said another way, you cannot use pot and purchase a gun (without lying on a 4473). But according to this decision, using/possessing grass while also possessing a gun you've already legally purchased is not automatically a crime in and of itself.

This is big, but not "all marijuana users can all have guns now.” The Court held that the government cannot automatically prosecute someone merely because he regularly uses marijuana and possesses a gun. Rather, addiction, current intoxication, dangerousness, or misuse is the standard. From the opinion directly: "The Court’s decision is narrow. It does not address efforts to ban addicts or those presently intoxicated from possessing a firearm [or ] individualized proof that the defendant’s drug use renders him a danger to himself or others, or proof that a certain drug always renders its users dangerous."
