Regional conflict has triggered the biggest disruption to air travel across the Gulf since the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 8,000 passengers have been stranded in Qatar since the conflict began on February 28 after the country closed its airspace. Airlines are now beginning to reopen limited routes. CNN's Bijan Hosseini is at Doha's Hamad International Airport where Qatar Airways is operating flights to help stranded travelers finally get home.
Qatar has begun repatriation flights for passengers who have been stuck in the country since the outbreak of the conflict.

إلحاقاً بالبيان الصادر عن الهيئة العامة للطيران المدني بشأن الاستئناف الجزئي لحركة الملاحة الجوية في دولة قطر، يؤكد مطار حمد الدولي تسيير عدد محدود من رحلات الطيران لإجلاء العالقين ولعمليات الشحن الجوي فقط، وذلك بتاريخ 7 مارس يوم السبت، في ظل استمرار الإغلاق المؤقت للمجال الجوي لدولة قطر نتيجة للأوضاع الإقليمية الراهنة في المنطقة، والتي لا تزال خارجة عن إرادتنا.
ويوضح مطار حمد الدولي أن تسيير الرحلات الإضافية خلال الأيام المقبلة سيبقى خاضعًا للتقييم المستمر للوضع الأمني من قبل الجهات المختصة، حيث تظل سلامة المسافرين والموظفين على رأس أولوياتنا، علما أن عمليات الطيران الاعتيادية سوف تستأنف فور إعلان الهيئة العامة للطيران المدني في دولة قطر إعادة فتح المجال الجوي بشكل آمن.
ويواصل مطار حمد الدولي العمل بشكل وثيق مع الجهات الحكومية المعنية وشركائه من شركات الطيران لدعم المسافرين المتأثرة رحلاتهم و شركات الشحن الجوي، ويهيب بالمسافرين الكرام بعدم التوجه إلى المطار في الوقت الحالي، وضرورة التواصل مباشرة مع شركات الطيران المعنية للاستفسار عن رحلاتهم.
وتبقى جميع العمليات الجوية خاضعة للموافقات التنظيمية وسلامة الأوضاع الأمنية السائدة.
Partial Resumption of Air Navigation in the State of Qatar
Doha, 6 March 2026
Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) announces the partial resumption of air navigation in the State of Qatar, through designated navigational contingency routes with limited operational capacity, in full coordination with the Qatari Armed Forces and the relevant authorities in the State.
This phase includes the operation of a limited number of flights designated for passenger evacuation, in addition to the operation of air cargo flights, in light of the current circumstances in the region, and in a manner that ensures the continued provision of essential air services.
QCAA affirms that it continues to operate at the highest level of operational readiness, in close coordination with the competent authorities in the State, in order to ensure the safety and security of passengers and personnel in the civil aviation sector, and to maintain the safe and efficient flow of air navigation in accordance with the highest international standards.
The Authority is also continuously monitoring developments and will keep the public and aviation sector partners informed of any updates in due course.
The Authority notes the importance for passengers who have confirmed bookings with airlines to follow the latest updates regarding their flights. It also emphasizes that the flights mentioned do not include scheduled flights to and from Doha, which will resume once an official announcement is issued by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority regarding the safe reopening of the airspace.
