Bike Kingsland is a community group in the Kingsland / Morningside / Sandringham (NZ) area for all things bike / riding, micro-mobility, and active transport.
Everyone deserves to be able to choose how they move around our region, and to feel safe while doing so!
The New North Road upgrade project is part of achieving that - and creates quieter healthier streets, and healthier people, as each person on a bike is one car off the road!

Giving people option to walk, cycle, and take public transport is the well-evidenced way to reduce congestion. This is why the Netherlands (which has invested highly in cycling) is considered one of the best places to drive a car.
I'm on a bus right now, and the only other people using this side of great north road are a couple of people on bikes and some private property storage.
It begs the question: why build all these lanes for cars when 'no one' drives on them?

As a bus driver, I have to slow to go over these raised crossings, but also, and more importantly, I do not have to slow, stop or detour as much for on road/pedestrian X accidents where people - yes humans - have been hurt by cars & other 4 wheel vehicles. They win

It is irresponsible to get rid of the Auckland regional fuel tax without having congestion pricing or some otther means to pay for transport infrastructure. This will mean higher rates and/or cuts to essential transport investment.
