Data center load growth isn't a concern anymore because half of them are getting cancelled already, right?

The Public Now Backs Nuclear Energy. What Will It Take to Make It Happen?
Interest has accelerated as the tech industry touts the technology as a solution to the electricity demands of artificial intelligence https://t.co/UiUSE1J7Fd
Big tech built so many data centers in Ireland that the sector uses a fifth of the country’s electricity. Now, Ireland is trying a new approach. https://t.co/9Vq307tiWu
Per WSJ, Ireland is ending its three-year data center moratorium with a new rule: bring your own power. New facilities must build on-site generation or contract fresh renewable supply rather than pull from the grid. Data centers already are 21% of national electricity, over half in based in Dublin and Meath.
Some stats:
-MSFT, Meta, Amazon, Google: ~$670B AI infrastructure spend expected this year
-US tech firms = ~22% of Irish tax revenue (2024)
-US project blocks: 6 in 2023–24, 30 in 2025, 20+ in Q1 2026 alone
They made a bad mistake here on this part: "Globally, Microsoft’s demands for electricity use have swelled to 40 gigawatts from 6.3 in 2017." FACT - MSFT has ~40GW of renewables CAPACITY CONTRACTED, 19GW of which is online. Even still, this is a framework set up to equivalent annual match their needs and doesn't necessarily map to annual GW demand (might procure in advance of demand).

Gilmour wore that strap for 18 years.

Gilmour never blinked.

The finale of Chernobyl (2019) somehow made a scientific explanation feel like the climax of a horror film. Sitting there completely locked in while Jared Harris calmly explains how human ego and lies caused an apocalypse.
