PR: IDC Strongly Supports Congressional Letter Urging U.S. Intervention in Arbitrary Detention of Suleiman Khalil
"In Defense of Christians strongly supports the congressional letter to U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Thomas Barrack @USAMBTurkiye urging intervention in the arbitrary detention of Suleiman Khalil.
IDC thanks @RepMackenzie and co-signers @RepGusBilirakis & @RepJimBaird for pressing Syria’s transitional authorities to uphold their commitment to an inclusive society governed by the rule of law."

I join Natalie Khalil in calling on the Syrian government to release her father, Suleiman Khalil—the former mayor of the Christian city of Sadad—who has been detained for 19 months without charge or access to a lawyer.
A careful review of his case should make clear that his leadership in defending Sadad against ISIS—an effort credited with protecting more than 9,000 residents—should be honored, not punished.
Detention without charge cannot continue. The Syrian government can correct this injustice by releasing him immediately.
I was honored to spend time with Natalie and learn more about her family, her community, and her father’s situation. Please pray for Suleiman’s health and safety—and for his swift release.

Stand with persecuted Christians around the world. Make your voice heard.
Nigerian officials have created an environment that facilitates mass violence against Christians and religious minorities by imposing blasphemy and Sharia laws and looking the other way at jihadist atrocities.
The U.S. government knows the Nigerian officials responsible for these policies, I have been pushing my bill to sanction them, and President Trump has even ordered military action.
Instead of responding to American concerns, Nigerian officials waged a public relations campaign against critics.
They were confident in that campaign and in their ability to continue the status quo, and I am heartened that the House has just definitively proven them wrong.

Since 2019, tens of thousands of Christians in Nigeria have been slaughtered as part of a sustained pattern of religiously motivated violence by Islamist jihadis.
America gives billions to Nigeria. We will not continue to fund a Christian genocide.
.@USAmbUN: Churches are being burned. Pastors are being executed. People are being arrested literally for just wearing a cross around their neck.
We are taking the persecution of Christians in Nigeria very seriously.
🚨A bill to pull the U.S. troops out of Lebanon—including the ones training LAF tasked with countering Hezbollah fighters—FAILS on the House floor.
This reckless resolution would’ve limited President Trump’s ability to negotiate an agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
Turkey's readmission into the F-35 program would be unacceptable and illegal. I pressed @SecRubio on this and underscored why Turkey cannot have F-35s.
Syria's tribal leaders have power today that they have not enjoyed since the 1950s.
President Sharaa has empowered the tribes by marshaling their military capability which they gained during the civil war, to attack Syria's minorities, most recently the Druze and the Kurds.
Until 1950, tribal sheikhs were allotted 9 seats in parliament. This number was reduced to 6 when Syria adopted the 1950 constitution. Tribal power continued to wane later in the decade and was formally dissolved when Syria merged with Egypt to form the UAR in 1958.
@indefchristians remains deeply troubled by the actions of @RepCuellar against Armenian Christians, as detailed in the @dojphofficial 54-page indictment. @RepCuellar is alleged to have accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in Azerbaijani bribes in exchange for influence over U.S. policy.
At a time when Armenian Christians face ethnic cleansing at the hands of Azerbaijan, any effort to manipulate American policy on behalf of the Azerbaijani regime is deeply disturbing.

"Forged in struggle, unwilling to see American leadership surrendered to Azerbaijani bribery, Armenian Americans stand united with the people of South Texas in seeking to kick Aliyev ally Henry Cuellar out of Congress once and for all." - Aram Hamparian

Thankful to see the US engage against ISIS in Nigeria. But what’s the plan for the day after?
We can learn from experience in Iraq and NE Syria.
If the goal is to eliminate terrorists in Nigeria — even in a specific community — is there a plan to fill the governance and security vacuum there? Or will other violent actors simply take their place?
After the ISIS Caliphate fell in Iraq and Syria, Iranian-backed militias moved into the gaps left behind in places like the Nineveh Plains, targeting Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities while establishing control through checkpoints and intimidation.
In NE Syria, many of the very communities targeted by ISIS - Kurds, Christians, Yazidis, and others - built self-governance and security structures. The result has been some of the strongest religious freedom conditions in the region.
We should be planning now to support the people for the day after.
Christian communities have preserved the faith in its birthplace for nearly 2,000 years. Today, war, violence, and displacement threaten their survival across the Middle East.
IDC works to provide relief, advocacy, and support so these ancient communities are not forgotten. Please help keep Christianity alive in its birthplace.

"While much of southern Lebanon has suffered destruction during the war between Israel and the terror group Hezbollah, the predominantly Christian border town close to Israel remained largely untouched. Churches are still standing. Homes remain intact. Residents say the village avoided Israeli strikes because locals refused to allow Hezbollah fighters to operate from inside the town."
