Este es el libro que he recomendado hoy en @MasDeUno con Alsina en @OndaCero_es
Economists Dambisa Moyo and William Easterly argue that liberal institutions and incentives, beyond foreign aid and capital investment, create the conditions for economic growth. But many Global South states have been reluctant to fully adopt these. Sarah Thomas presents Moyo’s and Easterly’s ideas in this new essay.

One third of all PhD STEM workers in the US are immigrants who studied at a US university.
Today the US Administration extended its efforts to slash high-skill immigration, undermining foreign students' trust that they can complete their degrees & work afterwards.

@purposeful_pd yes, I have often said I forget I have PD while playing Ping Pong. Here's a video of me playing with my friend Joan who also has PD. As you will see at the end, I was very off https://t.co/4kAsroTP98
@purposeful_pd I love your stuff on paradoxical kinesia. I discovered this for myself playing Ping Pong -- even when I am very off, I can lunge for the ball and hit a great shot
Lant Pritchett is one of my idols and one of the best economists out there. And, again btw for people who like to brandy ideological accusations, Lant and I (we have talked many times) share a small set of priors.
Yet, I love Lant's work even when I disagree with it. Its because Lant really thinks deeply about issues and notably about measurements, what they mean, what they can say, what they cant say, what are we actually trying to do with measurements.
Here is, in fact, a dirty secret about economics. The best economists are insanely crazy about measurement, documenting choices, testing whether their choices make sense, whether something is missing in their measurements, whether the measurements are tied to the theory or poor proxies, etc. They write insanely detailed essays about data and they are proud to show every step they did. And that stuff, well it aint ideological.
I wish people would read more Lant Pritchett and less Hickel, Piketty, Zucman and Raworth.
@Shookout "Remember, aid cannot achieve the end of poverty. Only homegrown development based on the dynamism of individuals and firms in free markets can do that."--former World Bank economist William Easterly @bill_easterly
250 years after The Wealth of Nations, William Easterly's Violent Saviors revives Smith's core insight: development must arise from voluntary cooperation, not expert design. @PeterBoettke on what Smith and Easterly share — and why it matters. https://t.co/veUuci6SoE
Africa is the poorest region on earth because it's where wealth creators have the least freedom to create.
I've asked hundreds of people why Africa is poor and almost nobody gives this answer.
They'll say colonialism, corruption, and low IQ.
But overregulation? Never.
And that's the whole problem.
