@seamholder I did it. All that changes is you skip the gun fight and Yellow accuses you of stealing/sealing the fountain instead of crushing the flowers.
@futchblackquill I think he took too much pleasure/satisfaction in Phoenix as a bum to kill him. And you know for a fact he rode the high of being Phoenix's first thought when he needed an attorney for the rest of his life.
@LRSerling It's also not a rule that really gets "enforced" often. It's less a deterrent more a clarification of the vibe/attitude. These incidents happen pretty rarely, most players do like not needing to deal with these aspects. Part of it might also be the complexity of modern YGO.
@LRSerling If I had to guess a lot of it comes from YGO's origins as an anime/manga w/ friendship and community as a major aspect. A lot of people play YGO for social aspects/to have fun with new people, so someone exploiting that trust is breaking a kind of unwritten contract of respect.
@LRSerling It's just a different skillset YGO players/community as a whole prefers. Most heavily dislike out of game techniques as opposed to just playing the game itself. Notably there's been a lot of criticism for coldreading & seeing human interactions as zero-sum games to win.
@ScruffyTurtles Plus even gen 5 had it rough. BW1 you literally had less than 6 unique mons available before the first gym, makes the introduction incredibly boring and repetitive, esp given you basically have to use the monkey to beat the gym.
@sunshiningcurse Seeing people go "You're speedrunning the story, stop." Is insane to me. "Stop playing the one good mode and spend months actively grinding MD for shards." Support IDs I can somewhat get, but they can feel unfair, esp if you're fresh through story, where they're way overleveled.
@sunshiningcurse I've been playing for years and 9-41 was agonizing for me, to the point I did consider dropping and only watching from then on. It is *so* dependant on you having a good 000 on the 3 sinners, so since I have been unlucky w/ Meur and uninterested in sharding him, oopsies.
@SnazzyYGO FGs get a lot of flack for poor introductions, MD's is worse. FGs at least let you faff about in low ranks to have mindless fun, MD you slingshot between DT and the beginner deck with no rhyme or reason. Plus the well-known single player being bad/not even close to the real game.
@SnazzyYGO I mean, the issue is even fighting games put you against new/bad players. Their ranked systems work. MD, in part due to both YGO's massive variance in deck quality and the ladder's own faults , your first game could legit just be vs a meta/slightly off meta deck.
@amoebatwt It's been a bit but was it that many abnos? The CG just showed a couple HEs, and we know some abnos almost def weren't because they're based on later events (Burrowing Heaven or CENSORED as examples). It's still impressive but idk if there were even ALEPHs there.
@salmon51485 I remember a year or two back seeing a fic of some of the sinners (Greg, Don, Heath, Ish, and Rodya I think?) stuck on a Warp Train. And they had Gregor distort/manifest first. Thing is they kept stopping for paragraphs long Magic the Gathering games. Respect the fixation I guess
@lexia_solve_e@A_Weebman I think part of it also is how personal/on-screen it is. Sonya and Huan don't do much to their sinner, Hermann is mostly flashback, and we get to humiliate Ahab. We *see* Nelly systematically break down Wuthering Heights & try to kill Cathy & Heath, and we feel his heartbreak.
@azranIegacy She's obsessed with her own beauty/perfection, which could have several causes. None of the other Kindred/Don seem to care much, which could go either way of "She's just vain," or "She's been conditioned to only value this, and the dysfunctional family couldn't help her heal."
@azranIegacy I think it's certainly a valid interpretation, though given our pretty limited information on the Kindred in general I'd hesitate to call it "canon" by any stretch, at most maybe an intentional subtext.
@olivecider776 A lot of PoR was Ike maturing and developing as a person and fighter, and the BK fight was the representation of his growth. Retconning that to "BK sandbagged" sabotages almost all of it. If it was just "He managed to survive," I'd be fine, but him actively throwing is ugh.
@olivecider776 I'm this person, though I do know a decent bit of RD via osmosis. I feel PoR is a really comprehensive story, with the loose threads being mostly ignorable. If anything I dislike what I know of RD's Black Knight. Knowledge of it undercuts a major PoR plot & char moment.
