My friend was alive in 1968 and still lives. Grandfather Madasa was one of the wealthiest indigenous farmers in the Eastern Cape, with more than 2000 sheep, and a variety of livestock and crops in theTsolo area. He lived and worked among Mpondomise people on his customary land. The white apartheid government called his farm, residential rights regardless of the ancestral ties of the Krancolo people to that land, successful animal husband and crop farming. In 1968 the Madasa family was put on a clear downward economic and financial trend that has not been resolved. These are questions of concrete political struggle.

I is with heaviness of of heart that my own grandfather, Burnett Mafeje, uJola, lost all of his land among Mpondomise in the 1970s, by the 1980s there were no traces of his livestock wealth and his croplands. Our families were pauperised by the state while were already born and attending school. My partenal Ruben Swana lost his land around 1976, sinking us into poverty. I had eaten much fresh fruit from his highly developed orchard from the early 1970s.

It is imperative that EFF, PAC and our people as a whole look at the Land Question with greater determination regardless of the reckless threats from AfriForum and Donald J Trump.
