Before 2013, Uhuru sent a group of Kikuyu elders to Kipsigis land to request the then-URP party leader, William Ruto, to accept to deputize him. Kipsigis elders wholeheartedly blessed the Uhuru-Ruto ticket.

Now, Uhuru didn't see Ruto's “badness” during their first term, only to discover it after they were re-elected for a second term.
