Urgh. No mention: of normal distribution of broad autism phenotype; of established links with hypermobility/connective tissue conditions & other comorbidities; that autism ‘s polygenic nature = heterogeneity of presentations; no attempt to suggest what IS going on with those at the (ostensibly) higher functioning end of THE SPECTRUM

I was there. CF had spoken for a long time, comparatively, and there were gesticulations for things to move along - so the audience were paying heed to non verbal comms and avoided delaying the next phase by interrupting with applause. She did get some even so, and more later too. You had to be there really I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

@rodrigosdata Why couldn’t OR have released these before we all got in a queue which we’re told we must stay in (& not get in another queue) for fear of being excommunicated. Whole thing’s so depressing/unfair; just about ruined my day (& kids); & now the joy of seeing resales on ViaGogo 😔

@epballou Beautifully put. As a clinician, I often see people who look entirely different on surface but share deeper patterns, & others who look similar but have v different underlying profiles. The idea that differences are about configuration rather than severity feels closer to reality

@naomicfisher Yes, this! Thanks for sharing @naomicfisher. Any rethinking of diagnosis MUST be careful or we risk autistic girls being misunderstood not just in classrooms, but in workplaces, the health service, & esp on mental health lists as they wait to be “seen” (or misunderstood further)

@psi_001 @PaulaMc007 Untrue & reductionist. Nobody gets dx 4 shyness; always other factors meeting criteria. Everyone doesn’t dx themselves; there’s still huge stigma. People require different support/understanding (it’s not always about £). 1 person’s needs shouldn’t be affected by another’s #nuance

@naomicfisher It’s not about stymying debate. Dame Frith characterises a growing group of later-dx women as hypersensitive & questions the scientific bases of compensatory strategies despite the research & longstanding under-dx of girls. Not an even playing field; her voice carries more weight
