Men: are you open to having a casual, one-on-one conversation about birth? We in the Irish Birth Movement are curious to hear your thoughts and talk with you about your experiences, whether or not you have been present at a birth… 1/2
Simon Harris authorised a US military plane to refuel at Shannon Airport on Sunday on its way from a Department of War airbase to the Nevatim Israel Defense Forces base.
It was transporting soldiers or military cargo.

💚 @BirthMovementIE, a grassroots group of mothers, families, midwives and birth workers demanding safe, evidence-based, and compassionate maternity care held a protest in Limerick to protect the rights of mothers 💚🙏
Families in Limerick and across Ireland are being denied real choice in maternity care, despite promises made in the 2016 National Maternity Strategy 🐣👶

#Mindfulness has been shown to support mental health + reduce the overwhelm that is often part of the early breastfeeding journey. Why wait until women show signs of depression? Why not incorporate mindfulness as part of breastfeeding education antenatally? @WeMidwives
Not entirely surprising - is this a regional issue? How can GPs be so out of touch with the evidence? Women considering attending Cavan MLU were also being advised against midwife led care by GPs. #vbac@WeMidwives
One positive aspect of Lisa’s experience was the availability of the mobile epidural in @CoombeHospital. But the @RotundaHospital say it’s too much trouble for their staff…I hope women will vote with their feet and choose the hospital that best aligns with mum’s preferences.
I host a monthly VBAC chat online. Women are sharing disturbing experiences of obstetric care in some Irish maternity units. “It’s a cruel system” one mother stated referring to the constant wearing down of her autonomy and confidence at each antenatal appointment. @wemidwives
If a mum gives birth in terror, then a baby senses that. It seeps in to their stress system. It becomes part their entry into the world. This is very hard for us adults to face. Which is we need courage. Let's face it and then stop it. Well done these brave women.
Congratulations @mariavelohig on your publication. #freebirth while being a choice some women will.always make often reflects a healthcare system that is broken and does not support a well resourced and supportive #homebirth service. Where to go now to better support these women?
There is a concerning disconnect between what women are saying they experience in Irish maternity services and what providers say is happening to women. Medical gaslighting is adding to women’s birth trauma. @WeMidwives

We are community midwives, #ofcourse we will treat you with dignity and respect and care for you and your baby, with the compassion and reverence you deserve. You are not a number to us. We are community midwives, and we will love your journey as much as you do #homebirth
We are disappointed by @HSELive's decision to stop increasing targets on breastfeeding. Our research shows that the required lactation support within healthcare settings is still not universally available. We worry that by removing targets, there will be less focus on support.
