GTA VI could cost $1 billion to $1.5 billion or more for Rockstar, including development and marketing costs.
What do you think? How many days will it take for the game to earn that amount back?
GTA was supposed to be a boring racing game.
In 1995, DMA Design was building a top-down cops-and-robbers game called Race'n'Chase.
Testers hated it.
Then a bug broke the police AI.
The cops started ramming the player's car like maniacs, completely ignoring the actual chase logic.
Testers loved it.
They stopped doing missions and just drove around causing chaos.
The team didn't fix the bug. They built the entire game around it.
That bug became Grand Theft Auto.
For years, Mario was just "Jumpman."
Then Nintendo's U.S. team rented a warehouse. Their landlord - a guy named Mario Segale - kept showing up to collect rent.
Someone noticed he kinda looked like the little plumber on screen.
And that's how the name was born.
Do you know how much he earned?
In 1987, a burned-out developer was about to quit gaming forever.
He had one game left in him. If it flopped, he was gone.
It sold 400,000 copies.
His name was Hironobu Sakaguchi. The game was Final Fantasy.
