BitMEX

The world's leading cryptocurrency derivatives exchange since 2014. Inventor of the Perpetual Swap.

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

Dear BitMEX Users,

Today, we share with a very heavy heart that BitMEX exchange will shut down its operations, effective 23 September 2026 at 04:00:00 UTC.

The owner and operator of BitMEX, HDR Global Trading Limited, has made the difficult decision to close operations following a strategic review of the business.

It may not look the same today, but we are proud of our 11+ year legacy and the role we played in shaping the crypto industry. We invented the 100x leverage perpetual swap, which for most of you, was the first step to your crypto trading journey. It is now the most traded financial product in the crypto industry, adopted by thousands of users and exchanges. And we remain proud of our robust security infrastructure, which has allowed us to maintain a flawless track record of 0 customer funds lost to hacks in our entire operating history.

We want to reassure you that your assets remain fully safe and under your control during this transition period. This announcement is just to give enough time to ensure a smooth withdrawal process for everyone.

From today we strongly encourage all users to close their positions and withdraw their funds as soon as convenient. For more details on the full process, please read our blog: https://t.co/OOHeh6xHm8

BitMEX was once home to some of the greatest traders today. Our team has dedicated tremendous effort and passion into building the platform into what it is, and we are glad to have reached some of you during your time with us. To everyone who has traded, supported, and grown alongside us - thank you for your trust over the last 11 years.

The BitMEX Team

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

Our next partner spotlight: COLLYBUS

They entered the digital markets with a clear thesis: bridge traditional finance and digital assets with regulated, institutional-grade infrastructure.

We saw the value early, and BitMEX became the first exchange to white-label their alternative trading platform.

Our VIP and professional traders wanted more than a standard exchange screen; through COLLYBUS, they got streaming click-to-trade pricing and a consolidated view of risk and positions, all under the BitMEX brand, built by traders for traders.

For any exchange wanting to give its most active clients a better experience without building it in-house, COLLYBUS is worth the conversation. We would absolutely do it again.

Thanks to @gos_collybus and the COLLYBUS team for backing this from launch to the last day 🤝

BitMEX invented the Perpetual Swap in 2016, bringing high leverage into crypto trading for the first time.

Our next partner spotlight @PredictEX is bringing that same leverage DNA into prediction markets.

Trade sports outcomes with real leverage, and make your capital work as hard as your conviction does.

Thank you PredictEX 🤝 let's change the future of trading.

Fortune favours the bold.

Crypto thrives on innovation – new tokens, new tech, and new projects. But none of it moves without strong backing.

Our next partner spotlight WealthPoint helped support deeper markets, particularly new listings and spot pairs where larger makers feared to tread (and trade).

One of our closest market making partners over several years, their quoting gave BitMEX clients reliable execution when it mattered most.

Thank you WealthPoint 🤝 We're grateful for the partnership.

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

A trading strategy is only as good as the liquidity behind it. Without it, even the best setup goes nowhere.

That's where our next partner spotlight comes in with @Wincent_co

As an anchor market maker, Wincent provided cornerstone liquidity for our major perpetual swap markets from 2024, with orders in the books right up until those markets closed.

Wincent was also a key collaborator on our Protected Liquidity Pools, and its market making complemented its position as a top-5 trader on the platform. We wish Wincent continued success and look forward to working with the team on future projects.

Thank you Wincent 🤝 We're grateful for the partnership

Traditional stock markets close. BitMEX never did, and that took the right data behind it.

That’s where our next partner spotlight @PythNetwork comes in.

Pyth Pro powered the pricing behind our Equity, Commodity and FX Perps. Institutional-grade data across 2,800+ feeds made it all possible.

Thank you @PythNetwork 🤝 Proud to have built that with you.

For traders, liquidity is like oxygen. Without it, even the best strategy suffocates.

That's where our next partner spotlight comes in with @DV_Chain

As one of our anchor liquidity partners, DV Chain helped deepen a breadth of markets and support seamless execution for our clients.

Thank you DV Chain 🤝 We're grateful for the partnership.

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

The difference between a good trader and a great one comes down to execution.

Our next partner spotlight @abexcapital helped traders access better execution and automation.

We extensively tested ABEX's algorithms for execution, and had planned a partnership to bring their algorithmic trading tools directly to BitMEX users.

The ABEX team brought real expertise to the table, and were a pleasure to work with. Thank you for the work we got to do together, and we wish you continued success 🫡

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

BitMEX invented the perpetual swap back in 2016. Since then, traders have needed reliable market data to keep up.

That’s where our next partner spotlight comes in with @tardis_dev

Our team used their comprehensive data to design the indices underpinning our mark prices. They provide that same institutional-grade edge to clients, delivering tick-by-tick orderbook snapshots, trades, open interest, funding rates, and liquidations.

Tardis is exactly the kind of data infrastructure that makes crypto markets more trustworthy.

Thank you @tardis_dev 🤝Appreciate the work together.

@vladtenev you're welcome

Crypto would not be here without the believers who backed it before it had anything to prove.

Our next partner spotlight: @CadenzaVentures, backing early-stage crypto and blockchain companies since 2018, before most were willing to take the bet.

Thank you for your believing in something 🫡

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

OG status in crypto isn't given, it's earned.

Our next partner spotlight @PulsarTrading made their first trade on BitMEX in February 2015.

One of our first 1,000 customers and the first institutional trading firm to trade with us, they grew alongside BitMEX. As a Designated Market Maker, they provided crucial liquidity and invaluable technical and market feedback along the way.

Thank you Pulsar 🤝 It's been a pleasure working with you.

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

Trust is the real collateral in crypto. That’s where our next partner spotlight @ZodiaCustody comes in.

Through their Interchange network, institutional traders on BitMEX were able to access deep derivatives liquidity without pre-funding exchange accounts.

Assets remained in bank-grade, cold custody throughout the trading lifecycle - eliminating exchange concentration risk while maintaining execution performance.

Thank you to the @ZodiaCustody team for helping build a safer trading ecosystem 🤝

Continuing our partner spotlight series with the foundation behind it all: @FireblocksHQ

Behind every trade is an infrastructure layer keeping your assets safe, and your on-chain transfers reliable.

When we expanded past XBT perps into multi-asset margin currencies, spot and brokerage, we integrated with Fireblocks MPC technology to build the security foundation that enabled our product expansion.

The gold standard of crypto custody infrastructure 🤝 thank you Fireblocks

12 years. 0 customer funds lost. Every bull and bear cycle crypto has ever had.

Thank you to everyone who traded XBTUSD. It was an honour to build something that changed our industry.

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

Yesterday we closed the book on XBTUSD — the contract that started it all.

Launched on 13 May 2016, it was the longest-running perpetual swap contract in crypto. And until we are told otherwise, the longest running derivatives contract of any kind, given TradFi still trades on contracts that expire.

Let's take a trip down memory lane one last time 💔

[BitMEX @BitMEX]

What we learned building XBTUSD wasn't really about Bitcoin. It was about proving that any asset - equities, commodities, FX - could be traded the same way.

Perpetual Swaps are now spreading well beyond crypto, and we're proud of the part XBTUSD played.
