💢 Palestinian Christian athlete and US citizen held without charge since June 2
Natalie Abudayyeh, 21, a Lutheran youth leader and member of the Palestinian women’s national soccer team, will remain in Israeli prison until at least September 23 after a military court hearing Wednesday, her church said.
Bishop Imad Haddad of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land called the ruling “incomprehensible,” saying authorities have denied every bail request and refused to let the family visit or contact her in any way.
She has been held nearly two months without charge at Damon Prison, where prisoners have reported severe conditions and repeated rights violations. Haddad said her family is “losing hope.”
The journalism student was seized at gunpoint from her Birzeit University apartment on June 2 alongside three other women. Among them was Sama Safi, a 20-year-old Palestinian American psychology student from Florida (image 2), who remains at Ofer prison. Her lawyer Lea Tsemel says the case rests on information likely extracted under duress. Safi’s family says she has a chronic condition requiring treatment she has been denied.
Israel was holding over 3,324 Palestinians in administrative detention as of June, among roughly 9,400 held as security prisoners.
🇵🇸 Detained Gaza surgeon has lost ~100 pounds in Israeli custody, rights group warns
Dr. Murad Walid Murad Al-Qouqa, 47, head of orthopedic and spine surgery at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, has lost roughly 45 kilograms and suffered a serious eye injury affecting his vision since Israeli forces seized him from the hospital, the Palestinian Center for the Defense of Prisoners said Thursday.
Israeli forces arrested Al-Qouqa on March 19, 2024, during their raid on Al-Shifa while he was treating the wounded. Several other medical staff were taken with him. He has been held ever since, moved between prisons and detention centers, and is now at Naqab.
The center said he has been subjected to torture and physical and psychological abuse, and was denied blood pressure medication for two months or more while living with a herniated disc and stomach ulcers. It attributed his weight loss to starvation, medical neglect and detention conditions.
A lawyer eventually reached him after a prolonged period without access. The Red Cross has still not been permitted to visit. Sixteen doctors and dozens of other healthcare workers remain in Israeli prisons, many arrested inside hospitals, according to the center. (See post below)

🇵🇸 Former Palestinian prisoner Ahmed Samir Odeh, 23, from Huwara near Nablus, has died after his release from Israeli detention, according to official Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups, which held Israel fully responsible for his death.
Odeh was most recently arrested in February 2026 after being severely beaten and had previously spent more than a year and a half in administrative detention without charge or trial.
The groups said he was subjected to systematic torture and harsh prison conditions and was released suffering from serious physical, psychological, and health problems.
Israel abducted a 20-year-old woman from her home in the occupied West Bank in the middle of the night on June 2.
Her name is Sama Safi.
She is not a combatant.
She is an American-Palestinian university student.
She has now been caged in an Israeli dungeon for 58 days — without charges, without reason.
And yet, the same voices that claim to care about human rights have nothing to say.
No outrage. No headlines. No urgent calls for her freedom.
Because Sama is Palestinian, her story is ignored.
