The Cardano Foundation co-signed a letter with Stellar, Hedera, Aptos, Ava Labs and Chainlink asking the SEC to put its classification of $ADA as a digital commodity into the text of its new crypto rules, not just the explanation. https://t.co/JhDSEfNDP6
Midnight introduced Nightmode, built with @Sig_Network: MPC vaults meant to extend Midnight's shielded privacy and selective disclosure to assets on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron and more, without leaving those chains. https://t.co/byigY9eyB7
IOG laid out how Leios reaches Cardano mainnet with the Dijkstra hard fork: constitution update, hard fork, SPO BLS key registration, mainnet load tests, then parameter increases. Target: ~3–5x today's throughput at first, ~10–15x later. https://t.co/lM71urnYZl
@CardanoG1@StakeWithPride I agree with this. It is a fundamental change to the published incentive model and the partner-chain security premise and should go through on-chain governance rather than be treated as an implementation detail.
No, that is not accurate.
MIP-0016 does not create a separate or split “allocation of NIGHT for staking.” Staking rewards come from the same Reserve that already funds block production rewards. The proposal states explicitly that:
The Reserve’s drawdown schedule is unchanged.
There is no new emission and no separate Reserve draw for staking.
Total emission continues to match the published Reserve curve, with no increase attributable to staking.
How the rewards actually work
The block producer (operator/SPO) earns the full block-production reward from the Reserve. That reward is then split: the operator keeps a commission, and the remainder is distributed to the pool’s NIGHT stakers in proportion to their reward weight. This is the standard pool commission model used in most proof-of-stake systems. The total amount leaving the Reserve stays the same; only the distribution between operator and delegators changes.
Security impact
In V1 of the proposal, stake carries no consensus weight. Network security continues to come from the block producers (initially federated operators, later Cardano SPOs as the roadmap opens block production). Sharing a portion of the existing rewards with stakers does not shrink the overall security budget or cause the Reserve to deplete faster. It redistributes part of the producer reward to token holders, which is the point of the staking design.
You assume a fixed staking pot that gets divided and thereby weakens incentives. That framing does not match the documented mechanics of the Reserve or MIP-0016.
Feel free to use AI to verify all this and I would highly suggest also using AI to verify future assumptions before posting false information.
MIP-0016 is a draft proposal specifically for **NIGHT token staking rewards**, not for changing Midnight’s consensus, validators, or security model.[](<https://t.co/yCYhXx3TQ2>)
Key facts from the proposal and related docs:
- Stake in MIP-0016 explicitly **carries no consensus weight**. It is liquid staking that lets mNIGHT holders earn a share of existing block-production rewards (paid from the Reserve) by delegating to pools run by already-registered block producers. It does not create new validators or alter who produces blocks.[](<https://t.co/yCYhXx3TQ2>)
- Midnight’s partner-chain design relies on Cardano SPOs for block production and security (currently federated operators; planned to open to Cardano SPOs in Q1 2027 per the official roadmap). MIP-0016 does not bypass or replace this — it layers a native NIGHT staking option on top so holders can earn rewards without needing ADA or running a Cardano stake pool themselves. Acceptance criteria even state that a participating SPO’s Cardano registration, block production, and rewards remain unchanged.[](<https://t.co/iHxtN0APKk>)
- The roadmap treats “NIGHT staking” and “Block production opens to the community” (Cardano SPOs) as separate Q1 2027 items. Docs on validators consistently require operators to be Cardano SPOs to produce Midnight blocks.[](<https://t.co/MpcPOUR6A7>)
In short, MIP-0016 enables NIGHT holders to participate in rewards without becoming operators. It does not create a parallel validator set or defeat the partner-chain model of inheriting security from Cardano SPOs. The post conflates staking rewards with consensus/security.
The Hot Topic: Nightframes
1/ Smart contracts are public by design. Great for trust, bad for anything private, like an agent's trading strategy.
2/ Nightframes sit in the middle: private computers that follow your intent, with work you can check. Private by default, verifiable by design.
3/ That unlocks renting. A developer keeps their strategy private, my agent rents it per task inside the limits I set, and nobody can trade ahead of it.
4/ What I need proven:
✅ The skill did what it claimed
✅ It stayed inside its limits
✅ You can switch it off instantly
5/ We're building toward this at @Noctis_zone for Midnight City.
Looking forward to exploring more about Nightframes and the upcoming Midnight Passport
