It could be many things

Some are not face out & prefer to work in private only

Some may not want to mix with the clients circles at events

Some may save their face out event presence for their own career outside of SW. You can only spend your face once, especially in a single home base city

It might be an issue with the specific client or event logistics. If its a venue that requires ID you don't want your client to see your ID or hear your govt name. There are many steps to playing girlfriend in public that can be privacy/safety/identity threats

It could be something as simple as he wants to drive to show off his new car at the event but you know he will drink & then insist he is ok to drive & you don't want to do the emotional labor of convincing a drunk man to get an uber

Or it could be something entirely different that shouldn't be said here
