Keep your cold card for evidence in the criminal and civil cases sure to follow. It may be the only reasonable way to “prove” your funds were taken. A weird twist about this hack is that the hackers know the serial number of the device. But if you have custody and control of the device (even if now empty), that will go a long way proving you’re the victim.
Tigers are notorious for this. Even back in 1987 they traded top prospect for aging starter Doyle Alexander. Everyone lauded management because Doyle went like 9-0 to finish the season, but we didn’t even win the AL Pennant. 1/2 of one good year. That prospect… HOF John Smoltz. Even the winning trades are losers. Keep your talent. Build around them.
1/ Earlier today, our Bitcoin engineering and security teams at Block began investigating reports of non-Bitkey wallets being drained. To proactively protect our customers, we began investigating immediately. Here’s what we found 🧵
@Excellion@saylor Watering down the best money (Bitcoin) with weaker money (everything else) strengthens fiat systems and hurts Bitcoin. Choose wisely.
On Saturday, a troll made a false "consensus failure" report about Bitcoin Knots.
To put it simply: if Core corrupts your data, Knots sometimes can't detect the corruption.
Since Core is late updating to BIP110, it can in some case corrupt the database after activation.
Very elegant solution, fully consistent with OCEAN's vision: miners running their own nodes are adult in charge of their block templates, not blind pool-dependant hashers, and the pool is just a service to reduce variance, not a decision maker calling the shots.
This doesn't mean that should miners decide Bitcoin rules: as clarified with the NYA failure at the end for the "block size wars", miners just follow Bitcoin's economy. But mining pools should serve miners first, who should in turn serve the economy.
This could even be a good way to deal with other controversial consensus changes in the future.
We launched @ocean_mining to decentralize, which includes cutting out middle-men and removing counterparty (custodial risk). As a non-custodian, the Bank Secrecy Act (source of most KYC, KYB requirements in US) does not apply by design. We’re a light software layer that helps miners talk to the network and coordinate their splits with each other. The details matter.
