@benitokatolik Atheism is not a practice or ritual, it’s the absence of it. Atheists are not preaching anything because there is nothing to preach. Any hospital, charity or orphanage without a religious signet is de facto atheist
@RizomaSchool What’s actually being smuggled in here is a degrowth philosophy and a dislike of human flourishing, improved living standards, and comfort. The new left doesn’t only spite solar, it wants you to consume the government-allotted amount of energy and no more.
@JeremiahDJohns Based on the pro-abolition positions presented in rebuttal, it’s mostly a bunch of arm chair trite philosophers who have never bothered to understand why we have the system we do in the first place. Everyone is falling prey to Chesterton’s fence
@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns Great so you agree you have nothing substantive to offer and you’re waiting for the people you’re opposing to bring that substance to you instead of seeking it out for yourself
@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns That you think the core problem of crime and punishment is a purely ethical one is the issue. I can take your ethical system as given and still end up with the same physical system we have today. If you take issue with the physical system, then your ethics are no solve at all
@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns If your position was “under the constraints of physical reality (eg info asymm, irrationality, self interest), if we did x thing consistent with my ethics instead of y thing we do today, I expect we’d see Z improvement in [outcomes I/we believe are good]” then it’d be interesting

@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns But we have caps in place because we are not omniscient. Risk assessment is hard and its error rate is high. Agents with power are self-interested and we need guardrails to prevent abuse of power.
I think you just have very poor theory of mind for criminal justice policy makers.
@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns I read your ethics post and then I reread your PRC post. It did not improve my opinion. Again, I just don’t think you’ve ever bothered interacting with the justice system. We have many of these things (like a parole board to evaluate ongoing risk).
@jdcmedlock It’s quite funny that all Hank did was say one non-AI generated phrase that gave his audience the mildest heeby jeebies and had to go on a three page long self flagellating apology tour for the most benign behavior ever
@adarshisit@Sebastian_Hols@JeremiahDJohns Ok so I did read your “PRC” Substack. You’re basically reinventing the law enforcement, prison and probation systems as if you think everyone who works in these systems today is a moron. I’ve worked in criminal justice, this reads like a very unresearched post to me.
@wight1984 With AI scripting, Hank is still a curator, tastemaker and adjudicator. Ultimately, it’s these things that the audience is tuning for bc these things are ontologically the Hankness of the script
@Dexerto This is the most milquetoast use of AI there is and Hank couldn’t even stand to criticism of that. Does not fill me with confidence in the truth seeking capability of Mr Science guy
@SiddharthC73548@UmdarTamker@aaraam_pasand You’ve just decided that Nolan’s choices are inauthentic. Since Nolan isn’t here to defend himself and provided no evidence for this, I consider this a silly and baseless claim.
@SiddharthC73548@UmdarTamker@aaraam_pasand So what? A reinterpretation of a story does not de facto owe fealty to the original. This is Nolan’s reinterpretation of The Odyssey. It is NOT Homer’s The Odessey. That creators can be creative in their interpretations is a good thing.
