The results of the complaint I filed with the @cityofhamilton's Integrity Commissioners are in - police board members cannot, in fact, vote on the police budget if they have immediate family on the force. I've been saying it for years. Glad to have it in black and white. #HamOnt
To everyone mad in the comments:
1) Your anti Black racism is showing. I'm the first Somali woman elected in Canada. There is nothing wrong with me reaching out to @IlhanMN
2) I have tons of meetings booked with local electeds as well.
3) I don't give in to bots or bullies.
On this day in 1959, 69 black boys were padlocked in their dormitory at school and it was then set on fire.
21 burnt to death while 48 managed to escape.
A THREAD.
This evening @ACCAHam members celebrated the reopening of 423 King Street building, after renovations last year.
HCCI, @djnontario & @HamOntCBN are tenants in the building. We look forward to continuing to utilize this space as a community centre for all #HamOnt residents.
Thanks to the federal government’s Supporting Black Community Initiative for supporting the renovations of our community hub. @GregFergus @MatthewGreenNDP @BlackHamont@jcaontario
We’re pleased to have worked w/ several Black-led orgs to launch the City’s first #BHM initiative “We are Hamilton…Black History Remembered” featuring 16 Black ppl who have made tremendous contributions to #HamOnt 🙏 @AndreaHorwath for continuing this work @FredEisenberger
Thank you @AndreaHorwath for your commitment to ensuring that Black History is celebrated by the City of Hamilton. Shout out also to @FredEisenberger who supported the early stages of this history making initiative. @TheSpec @AM900CHML
Check out these banners along James Street! We honour and celebrate the historical contributions and achievements of Black Hamiltonians who have helped to shape our city, our communities, and our country. The banners will be on display until the end of February.
The Black community has contributed so much to the legacy and cultural diversity of #HamOnt — from education to justice, to housing, and the homelessness crisis, Black Hamiltonians have continued to lead the way in the struggle for justice, equity and change. #hamiltonbhm2023 2/3
@PopBase This.😂 Y'all should watch the dcoumentary of Ms. Dionne Warwick, Don't Make Me Over. It's worth it and you'll see how she became the blueprint of pop.

Words matter. I am proud to stand with 13 other councillor-elects, trustee-elects, council candidates and trustee candidates in signing on to this open letter calling for @TheSpec to make amends for their anti-Black racism. #JournalisticIntegrity#HamOnt
